BIHR is a UK-wide charity working with people, communities and public bodies to make positive change through human rights. All about using the HRA practically!
This week, UK ministers are discussing limits to human rights protections. BIHR has gathered civil society organisations across the UK to share our message:

Yesterday, the Immigration and Asylum Bill passed Second Reading.
We’re disappointed that so few MPs challenged the Bill’s proposed changes to Article 8.
Human rights are universal. The state cannot decide that some people’s rights matter less.

As MPs debate the Immigration and Asylum Bill at Second Reading, one key concern is how the bill narrows the definition of family life in Article 8 of the Human Rights Act to a “core cohabiting family”.
Real family life does not always fit that model.

The UK Government is looking to narrow how Article 8 of the Human Rights Act is applied in immigration and asylum cases.
This matters for people directly affected, and for us all.
Human rights are universal safeguards and must remain so.

The UK government introduced its Immigration & Asylum Bill today.
We’re concerned by proposals to limit how Article 8 HRA protections apply in immigration and asylum cases.
This matters for all of us: human rights protections are universal safeguards. We'll be following closely
