@BigP4P4Smurf That question already shows part of the problem. A world system is not replaced by “a link.” The work is dependency reduction... food, energy, housing, care, access, governance and feedback rebuilt in parallel so survival stops being routed through capital’s interfaces.
It is strange that capitalism is still treated as a live debate when the critique is everywhere. But dominance is not the same as persuasion. Capitalism does not survive because it wins the argument each day. It survives because survival itself is routed through its interfaces.
@OSUFanBigTime You are mistaking observation for explanation. Seeing similar behaviours in low-income areas does not prove poverty is chosen. It shows that repeated conditions produce repeated adaptations. The question is what keeps reproducing those conditions.
@OSUFanBigTime This is the moral filter showing itself. Calling poverty a “decision” while calling it generational is the contradiction. If it reproduces across generations, you are not describing isolated choices. You are describing conditions, inheritance, access and institutional filtering.
@OSUFanBigTime You’re answering a survival-access question with a status hierarchy. Nobody said skill should not be rewarded. The issue is whether basic survival should be conditional on market rank. Different rewards do not require manufactured precarity.

@roesingape I think the trap is letting capital define the word. Under capital, freedom becomes market position... who can buy, refuse, own, extract, or offload constraint. But dependency itself is not oppression. It is basic to life. The issue is when dependency is captured as domination.
Ownership is treated like freedom because access has been made conditional. But the deeper human need is not to own everything. It is to reliably use what supports life when needed. Ownership is only one interface. Access is the function.
Regulation is often treated as the fix, but it is usually an admission that the base incentives are misaligned. If a system requires constant force to stop predictable harm, the design problem is upstream.

Most people never experience “the system” as an abstract structure. They experience it as rent due, wages paid, forms rejected, debt collected, access denied and eligibility rules applied. These are the interfaces where human need becomes system permission.
@roesingape That is the captured version of freedom. Under capital, freedom is flattened into purchasing power, ownership, and the ability to move constraint onto someone else. But that does not make freedom fake. It shows how easily the word is used to hide coercion through need.
@NaMeiYa0818@OSUFanBigTime You’re describing the current interface, not the underlying function. Food access is produced by coordinated systems. Ownership is only the permission layer our economy uses to gate that access.
Scarcity is not just a condition inside this system. It is a business model. Too much access weakens profit. Too much abundance weakens price. Too much security weakens compliance. A system can claim to solve problems while needing many to continue.
Access is often more rational than ownership. Many things sit unused while everyone is pressured into private purchasing. The system calls this freedom because ownership keeps demand individualised, even when shared access would meet the need with less waste.
One of the deepest modern myths is the belief that systems naturally obey public morality when enough people speak loudly enough. Structural incentives, institutional self-preservation and dependency pressures are treated as secondary to public intention.
People often explain recurring social failures through corruption because corruption still preserves faith in the system itself. A corrupt system can supposedly be cleaned. A structurally self-preserving system requires a far more uncomfortable conclusion.
Modern politics often operates on a hidden mythology that institutions are infinitely reformable if enough people vote, protest, pressure or demand change. Structural constraints rarely enter public consciousness. The system is assumed to bend forever regardless of its design.
At household scale, economy means using resources carefully. Waste less. Preserve more. Make things last. At market scale, those same behaviours threaten turnover, employment and growth. The word stayed the same, but the incentive structure inverted.
