The Tories haven't tabled a debate on education for the King's Speech. I wonder why?
Maybe they don't want to talk about all the things Labour are doing to give children growing up in our country the best start in life – so here's your reminder. 👇
High quality early years education transforms children’s life chances.
Labour has made childcare more accessible & affordable with 30 funded hours and school-based nurseries.
Now, we're backing those doing vital work where it's needed most.

Working with schools and families, Labour has driven the biggest attendance gains in over a decade – 140,000 fewer children are persistently absent.
Today's analysis shows we have further to go, and we're equipping schools with the tools they need.

Last week, @bphillipsonMP visited Sunderland’s Women’s Health Hub to learn more about how it's improving access to menopause, contraception & gynaecology services.
By bringing care closer to home, the hub is helping women access the right support and improving health outcomes.
AI is creating exciting new opportunities - we’re making sure young people benefit 🚀
✅ 400,000 disadvantaged school students to gain AI & tech skills
✅ New AI bootcamps rolling out across England
✅ A new government-industry alliance to support early careers
This government will not stand by while children are put at risk online.
Today I am calling on the tech companies to introduce device-level controls to prevent children from taking, sharing or viewing nude images.
And if they don’t act, we will.
The first duty of any government is to keep our country safe.
That's why we're delivering the biggest sustained increase in defence spending since the Cold War.
10 million free breakfasts served is a massive achievement.
It's not just about the breakfast, it's the club too. A softer start to the day that gets children ready to learn and helps parents juggle work and family life.
“Over time, with the investment going in, we are driving that change – both in terms of school budgets and wider support for families.”

Henry Nowak’s family have lost their son and brother in the most appalling circumstances.
Nigel Farage is exploiting this tragedy to create grievance and division.
It’s completely unforgivable.
In her chat with Dylan and Hayden from teachsleeprepeatpodcast, Education Secretary @bphillipsonmp responded to parents' questions about SEND provision and discussed the government's approach to reform.

'He almost seems to enjoy it, it's disturbing.'
@bphillipsonMP condemns Nigel Farage's 'sickening' performance at PMQs, where he ignored calls to denounce violence during protests in Southampton.
Bonus good news: the future of teaching looks really promising.
Today’s stats show one of the lowest rates of teachers leaving their jobs on record.
There’s also been a 13% rise in people training to teach, smashing recruitment targets in subjects like maths and science.
🚨 NEW: Latest stats show we’re over 70% of the way to our target to recruit 6,500 teachers in the places they’re needed most.
We have 4,654 more teachers in those schools and colleges compared to 2024.
This is the difference this Labour government is making.
Kids starting the day full and ready to learn, no matter their background.
An achievement all Labour MPs can be proud of- and opposed by the Conservatives and Reform.
