My father died in a car accident in 2023. There were two life insurance policies, one from his workplace and one private policy that only my mother and I knew about. After the burial, my mother suggested we not tell my brothers immediately. I agreed. Those boys never supported him while he was alive. I was the one paying his hospital bills and taking care of him.
We shared the first payout openly and “fairly” with the whole family. But the second payout was 47 million naira, so we kept quiet. I used my portion to buy land and build a house in my name.
