Two high quality movies I’ve watched this last week

PONMAN n EKO

Unreal acting from @basiljoseph25 in ponman , you literally live the movie through him and as always solid from the supporting cast as well

EKO blew my mind in terms of cinematography,locations and such an unique story so beautifully woven together by Dinjith

Malayalam cinema is on a different level altogether

More power to all , make more such movies and keep putting the smile on the world that watches movies

Had nothing better to do last Sunday, so I went to a theatre - a habit I had given up post-Covid and after OTTs releasing more recent movies. Was richly rewarded with a spicy slice of Kollam and brilliance of Basil Joseph. 👏 #Ponman is another ponthooval for Malayalam.

#Ponman - 4 stars. An excellent character-driven thriller that’s primarily about the horrors of dowry but smartly avoids discussing it in detail and instead becomes a highly engrossing thriller involving two lead characters. Beautifully oscillates between drama and a tight thriller. Unarguably, Basil’s best work and it’s such an effortless performance.

Well written and neatly narrated story of how the dowry system is closely linked with Gold business in rural Kollam in Kerala.

Adapted from GR Indugopan’s novel, production designer turned director #JyotishShankar storytelling is fantastic aided by immersive camera work of Sanu John Varghese .

Film belongs to @basiljoseph25, outstanding performance as PP Ajesh the gold loan agent, a solid #Lijimol and an array of terrific little known actors.

A blend of brilliant screenplay & character study of real people you will love, hate and empathise. Pure cinematic gold!
Go for it!

#Ponman 3.5/5 : A well-written simple, raw and realistic film set in Kollam milieu. There is a subtle message in the end as the film is about dowry system prevalent in our society.. Adapted from GR Indugopan’s novel, #Ponman is about courage, resilience, perseverance and willpower 👍 of its hero. @basiljoseph25 once again proves that he is a bankable actor who is capable of carrying a film on his shoulder without any gimmicks or over-the-top actions. @jose_lijomol is fantastic while rest of the supporting cast is brilliant. Technically too this film is 👍 On the whole, this is a gripping and thought-provoking clean family entertainer. Dir: #JothishShankar
