Inspired by @VitalikButerin's d/acc work & the general trend of 'gov is dead so why bother' this year, I want to introduce gov/acc
gov/acc is an open research program focused on outlining the problems we're facing in web3, as a starting point for accelerating gov R&D
🧵👇
Anddddd that’s a wrap for day 1. What a great start to the week. We loved meeting so many of you. Now onto day 2 tomorrow!
PS, word on the street is we got some prettttttyyyy limited edition merch dropping tomorrow.
Our new governance report is live.
We gave six communities money, total freedom, and an AI that could spend it for them, then watched how they chose to govern.
A field study in AI-assisted governance, with @protocollabs@GainForestNow@OctantApp@hypercerts 👇
Dankrad is describing something we spent over a year trying to build at @OctantApp
Octant v2 was designed around a simple premise: ecosystem treasuries should be structurally funding what they depend on. Not grants programs with quarterly applications. Not one-off donations. Continuous yield flowing from staked treasury ETH into the infrastructure the ecosystem runs on.. with transparency and accountability built in. We built the vault architecture and had baseline ideas around governance...We went to every major ecosystem and pitched it...
Every single one said no.
The reasons varied but the pattern was consistent, nobody wanted to be first, nobody wanted to commit treasury capital to a model that didn't already have momentum, and public goods funding was always someone else's problem.
Time goes on, the problem didn't go away and imo it got worse. Now the ecosystem is having the same conversation we were trying to have two years ago.
Solving this is still possible. The pieces exist. What's missing is the willingness from ecosystems that extract enormous value from Ethereum's security to collectively fund it. We have ideas we're actively moving forward with. My DMs are open to anyone: protocols, DAOs, treasuries... anyone who wants to be part of solving this rather than just talking about it.
The big news is out. We’re contributing to this incredible funding round, to protect internet freedom.
You can donate in $GLM and/or ETH to the round as well.
GRANT OPPORTUNITY: We have 1 slot open in our upcoming epoch.
Since 2023, we've given over 2870 ETH in funds in our epochs thanks to @GolemFoundation's staked ETH. This is a BIG opportunity to receive a no-strings attached grant.
You should apply if you are:
- growth stage
- have early or promising traction
- will benefit from funding
- have a stellar track record and results to show for it
- have a solid team
If you're an impactful project building on @ethereum or categorize yourself as a Digital Public Good (DPG) as defined by @DPGAlliance please consider applying. Link to what qualifies as DPG in the reply to this tweet.
Deadline: 18 May @ 3 pm ET.

Appreciate getting to present at the Stanford Blockchain Governance conference today, representing @OctantApp and @metagov_project
Will touch on the gov/acc work and some other Metagov projects, and talk about what experiments I hope to see more of / contribute to
If you're in the Stanford area, you should still be able to join

The report is out!
After months of work led by @MCooperResearch, working with @samccarthy27@rashmivabbigeri@RohitMalekar, the final report on the findings from the @ENS_DAO Stakeholder Analysis & Retro is live
Join the twitter space next week if you're keen to discuss
https://t.co/pFNMB3ArTc
@metagov_project completed a #governance assessment of @ENS_DAO and found results applicable across the #DAO landscape. Join us for a conversation on the results and read the report here (https://t.co/7X4Ezhx7Rb)
Submissions for The Protopian Prize Fiction Contest are now officially open! (through July 31st)

We can't wait to read your stories of achievable, hopeful futures and the work it takes to get there.💪📚🤓
Benchmarks are saturated more quickly than ever. How should frontier AI evaluations evolve? In a new paper, we argue that the AI community is already converging on an answer: Open-world evaluations. They are long, messy, real-world tasks that would be impractical for benchmarks.
The gov/acc workshop is about to kickoff. Excited for a day of discussion and workshopping!
Thanks @metagov_project@OctantApp@ethereumfndn's Academic Secretariat for the support!
Had the absolute pleasure of joining the gov/acc workshop at EthCC, hosted by @bbeats1
It was a packed day with thought-provoking conversations around DAOs, human coordination, and the friction points we all face across the industry: voting apathy, power concentration, delegation, and resource allocation.
We had some amazing lightning talks that really put these challenges into perspective:
👤 Jan Droll tackled the 99% voter apathy problem by showcasing a delegation dashboard prototype that helps token holders find appropriate delegates using similarity metrics.
👤 Sam McCarthy covered the @ENS_DAO retro, proving that retrospectives create crucial datasets the whole ecosystem can learn from.
👤 @b1ancakremer shared insights from her new Oxford book on DAOs & Corporate Law, challenging us to move dispute research "from the shelf to the stack."
👤 @alextnetto unpacked the Delegation Increase Incentives System for @ENS_DAO, showcasing a pilot program to convert idle wallets into active voting power by financially rewarding active delegates and their delegators.
👤 @jmclarty announced @AgoraGovernance 's Novo Origo Prize, a contest to imagine ideal governance from scratch, with zero committees or elected humans.
One thing became incredibly clear today: no single ecosystem can solve these problems alone.
By collaborating, running retrospectives, and even learning from traditional Corporate Governance, we can overcome these hurdles. 🤝
Decentralized governance and DAOs aren't over.
It's time to reflect on what hasn't worked and build better.
Excited to continue this journey and see how Cardano can contribute!
The signal-to-noise ratio was incredibly good.
Such facilitated, co-creation workshops are way more useful than days of talks.
Huge thanks to @bbeats1 for running this workshop today, to @metagov_project, @harmonica_chat, @crdntwrk, @join_agora, and to everyone participating.
We’re in Cannes this week. If you want to chat about vaults, public goods, yield funding growth, or anything Octant, hit us up!!
ft. @bbeats1@art_tem_ with our first Octant berets!!
