trans woman du jour being harassed opinions:
-one thing she is being attacked for is a legitimate criticism and displays a lack of responsibility for her (relatively/actually) large platform.
-the other critique(s) are like... psycho? go outside.
ok glad we sorted that. xx
trans people who know but stay closeted are insane to me because you do realise youre an animal that could die at any time... right?
like... no matter what happens you die! you know that right?!
YOURE GOING TO DIE ONE DAY ! PLEASE INTERNALISE THAT !! DONT WASTE YOUR TIME !!!
the idea of doing any job where i cant set my own working hours makes me want to kill myself is this normal.
like the idea of someone else setting my shifts and me having no say in it fills me with such disgusting rage that i want to crash out or something
another one is like "is a man nagging his partner until she gives him shit pity sex to shut him up rapey?" and like (a) YES and (b) if the relationship is so bad you never fuck eachother (and neither is ace) just fucking break up already like what the fuck are we doing here?!
i do find it quite eye opening to see cishet people discourse sometimes. what do you mean a big topic is still "is negging bad?". its 2026. what are you people doing over there ?!?
@DazzlingMellie to be clear, idgaf about "representation" as a concept, i dont really care. i care about stories made by us, those of us in the real world who make the art being there, and the things we have to say.
actually having watched Amazing Digital Circus now: wow the discourse about "good rep" is even more inane now that i actually know the totality of the art. jesus christ the fact that this conversation even begun happening is testament to how media illiterate most people are.
@DazzlingMellie im sort of mincing my words here, as i havent properly reflected on it yet. im sure ill have nuances and small edits to the opinion tomorrow once ive digested it! but to me jax and owen occupy a space that i feel is too retrospective to really feel like "representation"
@DazzlingMellie and i say this as someone who has i saw the tv glow in her top 5 movies, stories like this fascinate me and are important, but ultimately i dont think they "represent" us because theyre not really about who we are at the stage where we are publicly visible!
@DazzlingMellie i guess ive always taken the view that stories about what happens when you "refuse the call" of trans womanhood (so to speak) need to be handled outside of being thought of as true representations of trans women, because they occupy a different space.
@DazzlingMellie which is what surprised me the most about the discourse where im like... this isnt "trans rep" this is quite obviously a cautionary tale and not meant to be a representation of a trans woman, but rather the fractured psyche of a traumatised queer young adult repressing themselves
@DazzlingMellie also jax is explicitly a "heres a warning" type of character. they are not designed to be correct or admirable, but deeply flawed and sympathetic. that reading is extremely obvious and its hard not to see it, its one of my criticisms that its a little TOO on the nose!
in ep.9 we see this RAPID progression of every character's coping mechanisms breaking down for a reason: the iron fist in the sky is literally gone. you can breathe now. you are no longer in the torture chamber.
except jax, obviously. but that spiral was built up to be fated.
the most fascinating part of this show, to me, is the way it really isnt subtle but, unlike a lot of other art , it is a strength rather than a weakness. there are, by design, no physical consequences in the world, so emotions become the battlefield of the show by necessity.
actually having watched Amazing Digital Circus now: wow the discourse about "good rep" is even more inane now that i actually know the totality of the art. jesus christ the fact that this conversation even begun happening is testament to how media illiterate most people are.
the characters refuse to develop complexity until there is a possible way out, until they see a path to gaining agency over their life (end of ep.7 through ep. 8 involves everyone pretty drastically regressing for this reason). because, to be fair, why would they?
