Today’s reprehensible Supreme Court decision, as Justice Kagan wrote in her dissent, eviscerates the Voting Rights Act.

Retirement news: GOP Rep. Dean Kaufert, who returned to the Legislature this session after leaving a decade earlier when he became Neenah mayor, won't seek reelection.
One of toughest seats for Republicans to defend this fall.
11th Assembly member to retire/seek higher office.
A man stole William Woods's identity, then accused Woods of stealing his, had Woods prosecuted, jailed, and drugged in a mental ward. A dogged detective solved it. Is an above-guidelines sentence justified? Yes, explains Judge Gruender. Might be the craziest fact section yet!
When simulation becomes the norm, it weakens the human capacity for discernment. As a result, our social bonds close in upon themselves, forming self-referential circuits that no longer expose us to reality. We thus come to live within bubbles, impermeable to one another. Feeling threatened by anyone who is different, we grow unaccustomed to encounter and dialogue. In this way, polarization, conflict, fear and violence spread. What is at stake is not merely the risk of error, but a transformation in our very relationship with truth.
Retirement news: GOP Rep. Scott Allen won't seek reelection this fall after losing his bid for Waukesha mayor last week.
He's the 10th member of the Assembly to announce plans to retire or seek higher office.
With nearly all ballots counted in Wisconsin, a startling stat:
Chris Taylor, the liberal candidate, appears to have flipped 29 counties that went for Trump in 2024.

Wisconsin State Assembly Districts Won
2024 Presidential:
🔴 Trump 50
🔵 Harris 49
2026 State Supreme Court:
🔵 Taylor 70
🔴 Lazar 29
Taylor carried a supermajority of State Assembly districts.
The 2026 Wisconsin Supreme Court race was a large margin than expected, this was clearly an election where the conservative voters did not show up. However, there are some areas where Taylor did as well or even better than Harris in raw votes so persuasion was still a factor
I have found 5 municipalities in SW Wisconsin where Chris Taylor received MORE raw votes than Kamala Harris (26v24):
Steuben (Crawford): 23-17
Clarno (Green): 266-257
Wayne (Lafayette): 68-60
South Wayne (Lafayette): 63-57
White Oak Springs (Lafayette): 22-20
Chris Taylor, who won a landslide victory in last night's Wisconsin State Supreme Court election, was a protagonist in THE FALL OF WISCONSIN. Then a state legislator, I was struck by her openness, candor, and determination to expose ALEC's influence on Wisconsin's politics.
Looks like Chris Taylor won Ozaukee County, the most Dem-trending of the WOW counties. WOW has fallen.
(Obama lost it by 22 points when he was winning WI overall by a landslide. Harris lost it by 10.) https://t.co/N4VK3TYA4T
