ALIA REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO INDUSTRIALIZING BENUE, URGES FARMERS TO BOOST PRODUCTION.
By Tarungwa Ahoho
Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia has reaffirmed his administration's determination to industrialize Benue State, expressing confidence that Taraku Mills will soon commence production following the ongoing rehabilitation works at the facility.
The Governor stated this recently when he led a delegation of the Benue State Government on an inspection tour of the maintenance works at Taraku Mills in Gwer East Local Government Area.
Speaking after inspecting the facility, Governor Alia expressed satisfaction with the progress recorded, noting that the level of work done was encouraging and in line with the earlier projection for the commencement of production.
He called on farmers across the state, particularly those cultivating soybeans, maize and groundnuts, to increase production in readiness to supply the factory with adequate raw materials throughout the year once test-running is completed and full operations begin.
The Governor explained that the revival of the mill would create a strong value chain around soybeans and maize, stimulate agricultural activities, generate employment and further strengthen the state's economy. He added that Benue's economy had already begun witnessing significant improvement through the reforms introduced by the Federal Government and his administration over the past three years.
Governor Alia commended the team of engineers handling the maintenance works for their dedication and professionalism, while also appreciating the people of Taraku for safeguarding the factory against vandalism and theft over the years. He described members of the host community as disciplined, responsible and committed to the success of the project.
Earlier, the lead engineer overseeing the rehabilitation, Engr. James Ikyurve, informed the Governor that the maintenance exercise was nearing completion and assured him that the timeline set for the commencement of production would be achieved.
He thanked Governor Alia for personally inspecting the facility and applauded the administration's bold decision to revive Taraku Mills, describing the project as a major step towards the industrial and economic transformation of Benue State.
During the inspection, several machines whose maintenance had been completed were powered on and demonstrated to the Governor and members of his delegation as evidence of the significant progress made towards restoring the factory to full operational capacity.

BENUE RECORDS 100% SCORE, EMERGES AMONG NIGERIA’S MOST TRANSPARENT STATES IN Q1 2026 FISCAL RANKING
By Angula Bishop Reuben | 15th July, 2026
Benue State has emerged as one of Nigeria's top-performing states in fiscal transparency after recording a perfect score of 100 per cent in the States Fiscal Transparency League Table for the first quarter of 2026 by Budgit.
The latest ranking places Benue alongside Adamawa, Anambra, Ebonyi, Ekiti, Jigawa, Kaduna, Ogun and Ondo as the only states to achieve full marks across all assessment indicators.
The league table assessed states on the publication of proposed and approved budgets, quarterly budget implementation reports, the availability of functional e-procurement portals, and public access to fiscal information through government official channels.
Benue scored the maximum points in each of the five categories, indicating full compliance with the transparency benchmarks used in the assessment.
Recall that in the Q1 2023 States Fiscal Transparency League Table, released before the inauguration of Governor Hyacinth Alia's administration, Benue ranked last among the 36 states with a score of 28 per cent, having recorded no points in several key transparency indicators under the administration of former Governor Samuel Ortom. Three years later, the state has risen from the bottom of the table to a perfect 100 per cent score, demonstrating a significant improvement in fiscal openness and public financial management.
The ranking comes amid the Benue State Government's continued emphasis on reforms aimed at strengthening public financial management, improving accountability, and expanding public access to government fiscal information.
Observers say the state's performance reinforces its growing reputation for fiscal openness and adherence to transparency standards, while also providing greater confidence for the people, development partners and potential investors seeking reliable governance indicators.
The report classified states scoring between 71 and 100 per cent as "Progressive" (Green), those between 41 and 70 per cent as "Average" (Yellow), and states with scores between 0 and 40 per cent as "Poor" (Red).
While nine states attained the maximum score, several others recorded lower levels of compliance, with Rivers State ranking last after scoring zero across all assessed indicators.
Benue's latest performance adds to a series of national recognitions the state has received in recent years for improvements in public sector governance and fiscal accountability under the progressive leadership of Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, the Executive Governor of Benue State.
The dramatic rise from the bottom of the national transparency ranking in early 2023 to a perfect score in 2026 demonstrates the impact of reforms focused on accountability, openness and prudent financial management of the Alia led administration.
Congratulations to His Excellency and the entire team driving this remarkable transformation.

GOVERNOR ALIA CONDEMNS DEADLY ATTACKS IN OTUKPO, ORDERS SECURITY AGENCIES TO HUNT DOWN PERPETRATORS
Sunday, July 12, 2026
Governor Hyacinth Alia expresses profound sadness and the strongest condemnation following the early morning attacks by suspected armed herdsmen on Akpachi Village and the Otukpo-Nobi community in Otukpo Local Government Area.
He describes the attacks as not only a breach of peace, but also a barbaric and inhuman assault on the sanctity of life and the collective soul of the people of Benue State.
The suspected armed herdsmen reportedly invaded Akpachi Village in Akpa, Otukpo Local Government Area, between 3:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. while residents were asleep. The attackers killed scores of people, while many others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
The Governor says he is particularly pained that the attacks occurred at a time when the state government has been working closely with traditional rulers and security agencies to foster lasting peace and harmony.
He states that "these acts of mindless bloodshed are a direct attempt to sabotage the progress of our state."
Governor Alia shares in the grief and anger of the people of Otukpo and the entire Benue South Senatorial District, saying "your lives are precious, and I can assure you that your ancestral lands will not be surrendered to fear."
He warns that while the people of Benue have consistently demonstrated remarkable restraint and a commitment to peace, such restraint must never be mistaken for weakness.
"My government stands firmly with you, and we will not allow our communities to be turned into killing fields," he declares.
Governor Alia also issues a clear and immediate directive to all security agencies operating in the state to liaise with their counterparts in neighbouring states and once again "swing into action" with renewed vigour by intensifying surveillance and patrols across the affected communities and border areas.
He further directs the security agencies to relentlessly pursue the perpetrators, ensure their arrest and prosecution, and deploy additional personnel and resources to protect vulnerable communities and prevent further attacks.
The Governor calls on Benue residents to remain vigilant, saying: "We urge every citizen to cooperate with the police and military by providing timely and credible intelligence. Security is a collective responsibility, and your information is a vital tool in our defence."
While sympathising with the bereaved families and praying for the speedy recovery of the injured, Governor Alia reassures all Benue citizens that his administration remains unwavering in its commitment to safeguarding lives and property.
