@selfstyledsiren Genuine question: is it reasonable to demand that all of a person’s efforts be of ‘highest and best use’? Can we apply that logic to every artist? Is it ok for a musician to write jingles to pay the bills? If so, it’s not ok for Greta to do something that’s not high art?

Biggest surprise after moving to the US: The patience and general resignation displayed by Americans when - UNFAILINGLY - their flights are delayed or cancelled AGAIN. I expected mass revolts, but the vibe is more like the line at a 1988 Moscow grocery-store.
