As people in communities across our nation rely on one another, we must all pull together. No challenge is too great, no responsibility is too small. Nurses helping the ill, students sheltering at home learning, first responders, we all have a task; each of us must do our part.

I do not know where the second best community in our nation might be; I do know I will never leave ours in order to find out.

We don't shelter at home only to avoid the virus; we shelter to protect others. Each of us has an elderly parent or grandparent, an uncle with cancer or cousin with diabetes. We shelter to protect them. Put their picture on your door or visor as a reminder. I shelter for my mom.

Today we begin our remote learning implementation. Tomorrow we begin Kansas City's shelter-in-place. Our mettle is being tested but we are prepared and our community will see this through with a courageous commitment to duty.

Many events are beyond our locus of control. How we react to those events outside our circle of control is within our circle of control.

Perhaps the hardest part of making decisions is not how to accomplish the goal at hand but rather predicting and then accounting for the myriad of unintended consequences.

This spring's health concerns will test us all. It is a time for personal care but moreover a time for compassion and empathy. How we behave with, and to, one another will be the measure of who we really are. We will support each other; we will get through this, together.

One can never know all that is going on in another's life; all the more important we should always treat others with kindness.

myth; some of which we should avoid. Our heads should not be in the sand nor clucking about the sky falling. We should be cognitive and thoughtful in our processing and pronouncements.

Data collection satisfies curiosity; only when used to operationalize activity does it become purposeful. We need to move from data collection to reality correction.
