@kimi_Silver@allectus99 This certainly wasn't my experience. They're not organised enough to indoctrinate students, there is a range of opinion, right and left leaning student groups. This is silly conspiracy theory nonsense.
These universities should be allowed to fail. They receive so much money from students and other revenue streams, this fact just speaks to how much money they waste.
Make an example of these ones, force universities to do better.
@UWankings @DrTrishOFlynn The initial tweet was mainly about students not being made to attend failing universities, as these issues are indicative of much deeper issues.
We've done lots of learning today thanks to the academic community. :)
@ChrisKirk_ASP I have clarified this in subsequent tweets. Help must come with conditions.
Banks were bailed out but the disastrous heads of those companies remained despite their terrible decision making. That should not be allowed.
Transparency and accountability are key.
@ChrisKirk_ASP Lots of people see them that way because that's how they are behaving. Taking large amounts of students money, handing out bonuses, campaigning for higher fees.
I agree the government strategy towards universities is also wrong.
Like we said transparency is key.
@DrTrishOFlynn @UWankings We are grassroots, with no funding. We represent student interests mostly but will represent the concerns of lecturers and those in the community too.
@levipay I accept my wording of the initial tweet was too reactionary, I certainly take no pleasure in a reduced access to education.
It is a bit difficult to write at length here so bringing in the issues we care about to explain what we want to campaign for can muddle the message.
@levipay Value is only going to get worse with online classes.
The most important thing going forward is transparency. The public should be able to see where universities get their money and where it goes.
Universities can be saved but that must have conditions.
@levipay Yes next year will be tough for universities however this is due to the decisions they've made over a number of years. Half of VCs are on more than £300k. That seems excessive especially since (as far as I can see) the value for money on most courses is not particularly high.
@andrewwwilson @levipay Universities are allowing themselves to fail. We are simply advocating for those actions not be accepted and bailed out at will.
