Now, the City needs to extend the curbside bikeways to Cesar Chavez Street and widen the bikeways for the entirety of Valencia, ideally in 2025.
The Board of Supervisors unanimously rejected the appeal of the Mid-Valencia Curbside Bikeway Project, and construction of the curbside bikeways will begin on February 10 👏

“Luke Bornheimer of @StreetsForward criticized SFMTA’s Biking and Rolling Plan, saying it lacks a clear vision for a citywide [protected] bike lane network and pointing out that […] connected bike lanes help reduce car traffic, improve safety, and make streets better for all.”

Infrastructure improvements—like a connected network of protected bike lanes and low-car-volume streets—and policies—like an e-bike incentive program and low-cost bikeshare—would result in a significant number of people shifting trips from cars to bikes.https://t.co/JsXoUOAyxP

Curbside protected bikeways will increase revenue for local businesses and decrease car traffic.
People biking on Valencia Street decreased 2% after the center bikeway was installed.
By comparison, people biking on Valencia between Market and 15th Streets increased 49% after curbside protected bikeways were installed there in 2019.
👍👍 Curbside bikeways
👎 Center bikeways
The Valencia center bikeway will continue to injury people and put many more people in harm’s way because the design is fundamentally flawed.
Mayor Breed and SFMTA should replace the center bikeway with curbside bikeways immediately.
