Bird Friendly Calgary is a team of volunteers working to make Calgary a Great Place for Birds. Designated a #BirdFriendlyCity by Nature Canada on May 8, 2021.
Thanks for chatting with our team this week @scottstrasser19! Please keep an eye out for window strike victims, it can happen anytime! Turn off indoor and outdoor lights at night and #markyourwindows!
Ok Calgary friends, migration is definitely underway and unfortunately windows are taking a toll. If you live or work downtown (or hear buildings with a lot of windows), please keep an eye out!
🚨Multiple strike downtown! Survey team downtown is finding several strikes at multiple buildings WHILE present. We need help to check rest of downtown as we are small and can’t be everywhere.
@ratliw @N88TE @NatureYYC@weaselheadpark@cmcalgary@BikeBikeYYC One could argue the responsible thing would be to not be biking in a natural area at night when we know wildlife is more active.
@ratliw @weaselheadpark@cmcalgary@BikeBikeYYC Also night time is when most wildlife is active in parks to avoid people. A black bear has been in the weaselhead with cubs for multiple years without incident. There is a park closure at 11pm for a reason

While Flaco the owl was flying free in NYC, consuming meal after meal of the poisoned rats that would contribute to his death, hundreds of wild, native raptors across the city were meeting the same fate.

Flaco's toxicology report reveals 4 different types of rodenticide + pigeon herpesvirus. He was a very sick bird, in other words, when he collided with a window and fell, or simply fell, suffering traumatic injuries at an UWS apartment building.
