Another memorable Cairngorms' avian treat was seeing this ultra-rare snowy owl (Hedwig from Harry Potter) on the Ben Macdui/Cairn Gorm plateau. This very occasional visitor to the British mainland had taken up residence at the exact same place that others of its kind had done periodically for the last 100+ years.
That different birds have made their way to this patch of ground, no more than 5 square miles, is in itself remarkable, given that they come from the high Arctic. What makes this area so special? And how is it communicated through generations of birds?

@rothiemoon Blimey, Iโve seen a couple, this just made me to put them into BirdTrack. Spring is feeling generally slow at the moment, are other species down too?
