Our second Opening Act for tomorrow's concert (March 27, 2026) is Paul Blankenship!

Paul Blankenship is a multi-instrumentalist who has enjoyed a lifetime of playing, performing, and creating with numerous instruments and bands across disparate genres.

As a clawhammer banjo performer – who often plays a suitcase drum and blasts a kazoo, too – he calls on that repertoire of musical experience to bring a distinct flavor and energy to old-time
folk music.

He is not a flashy, polished, bluegrass virtuoso; rather, he provides a raucous, rough, and raw approach. With originals, high-energy renditions of memorable favorites, and a sprinkling of
contemporary covers reimagined, Paul emphasizes contagious fun and interactive sing-along vibes — which embody his belief that music is meant to be participatory and communal.

Paul has performed at The Ridglea Theatre, The Rustic, Stage West Theatre, Second Rodeo, The Truck Yard, Grackle Art Studio, The Hive, Lost ‘n’ Sound, Arts Goggle, and untold other venues. He has played for community events, churches, retirement homes. He has participated in and hosted numerous jams, including those by Black Rose Acoustic Society and Fort Worth Pickers and Percussion.

He has countless hours of busking, performing, and teaching under his belt, and he is ready and excited to share the benefits of that experience with crowds of all sorts.

One of the Opening Acts for tomorrow's concert (March 27, 2026) is the Craig Walter Duo!

The Duo consists of Paul Haller on keyboards and Craig Walter with vocals and acoustic guitar.

Craig Walter has performed throughout the United States and is a familiar presence in Colorado Springs venues. He is a singer, song writer and performer who has several original releases to his credit including:

Driftwood Fires
Last Chance Café

Paul and Craig have performed in a variety of musical ensembles including the band Tight Squeeze. Paul has actively participated in all of Craig’s recordings at Green Mountain Studio and has provided a wide variety of piano and synthesizer backing for recordings and live performances. His tasteful playing keeps him in high demand on the local music scene.

Looking for a way to give back to your community?

The Black Rose strives to find concert talent that gives our audience the best value for their money.

Occassionally we find an act that we just can’t pass up but need to pay them more than the normal rate. For these concerts, we seek people or businesses to sponsor the concert and make up the price difference so that we can maintain our very affordable ticket prices.

In exchange, we will advertise the sponsor and give them space at the concert and help promote their business. We usually have between 100 and 150 people at our concerts, and 2,000 recipents of our newsletter.

So, this is a great way to have your business reach out to more potential clients while making a tax-deductible donation to a non-profit organization!
