RE-VERIFY CUSTOMERS AUTOMATICALLY ON YOUR OWN SCHEDULE

An approved file ages quietly. Documents expire, addresses change, names appear on sanctions lists — and nothing in your dashboard changes to tell you.

Set the interval per service. The Advanced KYC Bot reminds, collects and re-runs every check. Your team sees only the failures.

[MARKET NEWS] UK GAMBLING FINES KEEP LANDING ON SOURCE OF FUNDS

Three casino operators ordered to pay £5m combined on 7 October for AML and social responsibility failures. In August, QuinnBet settled at £609,104 — a customer reporting around £2,000 a month in earnings deposited and lost £9,000 in four days.

Every one of them knew who their customer was. Identity wasn't the gap.

Onboarding establishes who. Monitoring establishes what changed.

[BLOCKPASS NEWS] REGULATORS COMPETE TO KEEP CRYPTO ONSHORE

The CFTC proposed federal rules letting US exchanges opt into federal oversight instead of state money-transmitter licensing, with proof-of-reserves and anti-manipulation obligations attached. SEC Chair Paul Atkins committed to further changes aimed at keeping markets onshore.

Japan's FSA streamlined its no-action letter process. India's parliamentary panel is pushing for stricter transaction monitoring.

[MARKET NEWS] FINCEN WITHDRAWS UNHOSTED WALLET AND MIXER PROPOSALS

FinCEN has withdrawn the 2020 unhosted wallet recordkeeping and reporting proposal, and the Section 311 special measure on convertible virtual currency mixing, citing the administration's deregulatory agenda.

Meanwhile Bulgaria will require reporting on withdrawals to self-custody wallets from 2027, and Thailand requires operators to verify a customer controls a self-hosted wallet.

Same wallet, different obligations.

VERIFY EMPLOYEES AND SUPPLIERS, NOT JUST CUSTOMERS

Small businesses verify customers because someone requires it, and verify nobody else. The supplier issuing invoices and the contractor with system access get less scrutiny than a retail signup.

KYC for people, KYB for businesses, one platform. No regulator compels it — one fake counterparty costs more than a year of checks.

[MARKET NEWS] CURAÇAO REPLACES MASTER LICENCES WITH DIRECT REGULATION

The master and sub-licence model is gone. Operators apply to the Curaçao Gaming Authority directly, and every licensee sits on a public register.

AML obligations no longer diffuse through a master licence holder — they sit with the named operator, under an authority that can investigate and revoke.

SCREEN EVERY CRYPTO DEPOSIT BEFORE YOU CREDIT IT

You verified the player. You didn't verify the wallet, or anything that wallet touched before it reached you.

Wallet screening runs before funds are credited. Only the address is checked, the user is never asked for anything, and clear results approve automatically — your team only sees exceptions.

A deposit is a counterparty you never agreed to.

WHEN TO SCREEN A WALLET ONCE, AND WHEN TO WATCH IT DAILY

API-First: a point-in-time check before a deposit, withdrawal or on-chain transaction. Wallet address in, risk score out — no KYC, no personal data.

Ongoing Monitoring: daily re-screening of wallets you already approved, with alerts on transaction size, counterparty risk or a score drop.

One screens at the gate. The other watches what happens after.

[BLOCKPASS NEWS] SURVEILLANCE TIGHTENED WHILE THE US STALLED

The CLARITY Act failed to advance in the Senate on a 49–50 cloture vote, leaving US market structure with the SEC and CFTC until after the midterms.

Elsewhere, reporting obligations expanded. Bulgaria will require full customer and transaction data from 2027, including withdrawals to self-custody wallets. Argentina committed to the OECD reporting framework. Brazil banned stablecoins on regulated cross-border payment rails.

Across all four, the obligations rest on verified identity.

THAILAND SETS A TRAVEL RULE DEADLINE: 27 FEBRUARY 2027

Thailand's SEC has finalised its crypto Travel Rule framework. Five-year record retention, enhanced data collection above 30,000 baht (~$900), and identification on every transfer regardless of size.

The hard part: when assets move to or from a self-hosted wallet, operators must verify the customer actually controls that address. Private wallets carry no KYC data by design.

Five months to build it.

$2.75 TRILLION WAS RAISED PRIVATELY IN A SINGLE YEAR

SEC Form D data: Regulation D offerings raised about $2.75 trillion in 2023, across 56,721 filings. Regulation A raised $1.1 billion the same year. Private placements are where most capital actually moves.

Over 35,000 of those were new offerings — and each carries an obligation to assess investor status. That duty sits with the company raising, not the investor.

[Blockpass @BlockpassOrg]

CHECKING A BOX IS NOT VERIFICATION

The SEC says it plainly: self-certification alone — an investor ticking a box to confirm they're accredited — does not meet the standard under Rule 506(b) or 506(c). A surprising number of early-stage raises still run on exactly that.

Under 506(c) the bar is "reasonable steps to verify." The SEC's own accepted methods include reviewing IRS forms for income, or net worth documents dated within the prior three months — bank statements, brokerage statements, a credit report — plus a written representation from the investor. A letter from a registered broker-dealer, investment adviser, attorney or CPA also works if it's within three months.

One detail founders miss: once an investor is properly verified, a written representation covers you for five years. The work is front-loaded, not repeated every round. That's the argument for doing it properly the first time rather than scrambling at each close.

Is your data room collecting documents, or verifying them?

GET COMPLIANCE IN PLACE BEFORE SOMEONE ASKS FOR IT

Most startups don't decide when compliance starts. A banking partner does, or an exchange listing condition, or an investor's lawyer during due diligence.

Triggered that way, you have weeks not months — and the listing or the round waits while you sort it out.

Basic plan: $99/month, every dollar becomes verification credit. Investor KYC across 200+ ID document types, Crypto AML and AML screening, live from day one.

THE FCA CRYPTO AUTHORISATION WINDOW OPENS ON 30 SEPTEMBER 🇬🇧

Opens 30 Sept 2026, closes 28 Feb 2027.

Two things to be clear on:
→ MLR registration does NOT automatically convert — you need fresh FSMA authorisation
→ Apply in the window and you can keep operating while it's processed. Apply late and you can't onboard new customers from 25 Oct 2027 unless already approved

The next few months are about evidence, not intent.

CHECKING A CUSTOMER ONCE NO LONGER MEETS THE STANDARD

Regulators increasingly expect customer risk to be managed continuously, not verified once at onboarding and filed away.

The hard part: expired IDs, changed addresses and new sanctions listings don't announce themselves. Nothing in your dashboard changes — the record just stops being accurate.

A scheduled review cycle fixes that, and it shouldn't be identical for every customer.

EVERY KYC FILE YOU STORE IS A LIABILITY

KYC is treated as something you collect. But everything you collect, you then have to protect — access controls, retention schedules, deletion processes, and a disclosure plan if it's ever breached.

Reusable KYC changes that. The user holds their own verified profile and shares it with you. You get the verification outcome without taking custody of another copy of their passport.

Less data collected, less to secure, less to explain if something goes wrong. And onboarding takes seconds, because the customer already did the work once.

The safest customer data is the data you never had to store.

A RISKY WALLET LOOKS EXACTLY LIKE A CLEAN ONE

No accent, no dodgy document, no mismatched address. Whatever instinct you've built reviewing identity files doesn't transfer to a string of characters.

So screening is non-negotiable. But the harder question: what happens after a wallet is flagged?

Block? Hold and ask? Report and proceed?

What's your policy? 👇
