The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine's workshop series on data and situational awareness for medical and public health preparedness and response has been announced.

The series runs three webinars this month, plus a capstone session in DC this September, and it's tackling a problem I've spent most of my career on: how you build real awareness of what's happening on the chaotic situations. I did that in a different domain, in operational intelligence situations. Things are different in crisis situations facing health care, public health, emergency management, but there are lessons that will carry well, especially when the situation is under stress and the data is noisy.

I'll be bringing an intelligence tradecraft lens to the discussion. Will talk Boyd, Klein, Heuer and how their many lessons aided me in dealing with chaos. Intuitive decision-making, confidence versus certainty, analysis of competing hypotheses, indications and warning: none of it was built for public health, but it maps onto this problem better than most people expect. Worth naming, too, where the analogy breaks down. Intelligence work deals with adversaries actively hiding things and seeking to deceive. Public health mostly deals with different types of chaos, natural noise and ambiguity. But the stakes are life and death and concern us all. Different problems, related toolkits.

claiming we copied their brand to mislead security customers, and they are asking for “all revenues, earnings and profits”

This is obviously not true. They don’t own every A/slash design in AI cybersecurity, and they don’t get to turn a logo dispute into a claim on Abnormal’s entire business.

It would be easier to concede quietly. But Abnormal was built on trust, innovation, and intellectual honesty.

Values are what you do when tested (especially when inconvenient) Our behavioral security platform and our AI models are ours.

Everything meaningful about Abnormal was built the hard way: the technology, the customer relationships, and the trust. We earned that trust by protecting customers, and we will defend it.

Fascinating. But seems like this is exactly the type of power that Anthropic has been lobbying for the government to exercise.

The US government, citing national security authorities, has issued an export control directive to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether inside or outside the United States, including foreign national Anthropic employees.

The net effect of this order is that we must abruptly disable Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all our customers to ensure compliance.

Access to all other Claude models is not affected.

We apologize for this disruption to our customers. We believe this is a misunderstanding and are working to restore access as soon as possible.
