Some absolutely did appeal to the greater empire, but others did not.
@DrDavidCuff@yuanyi_z I would argue Canada and Newfoundland were very different at this time in terms of political culture. Newfoundland was much more connected to the British Isles and Ireland compared to the mainland both in Trade and Politics.
Fun fact: Newfoundland in Canada is the only place in North America with an Irish name that isn’t a direct translation - Talamh an Eisc which means land of the fish.
