Delighted to share Jeni Cairns’ beautiful sculpture for @poacherline’s Boston Station. It illustrates Boston’s history going back to the @Hanseboston Wool Merchants, the fishing history and the @Stump_boston.
A host of golden daffodils, harbingers of Spring. And I’m delighted to say that the Boston in Bloom volunteers are girding their loins and getting ready to go out in pairs to start gardening in town again. An exciting challenge after a long rest! ^A
We had a good day today, although we were worried about the rain first thing. We checked our park beds, full of ladybirds and various pollinators. Then on to our police station beds to plant bulbs and pollinators. Looks good!
We did it! Planted nine planters and revived two or three where pigeons had nested in the chrysanthemums planted a couple of weeks ago. they had nipped off all the flowers. But the pansies and daisies look lovely. Must have planted 500 bulbs under all the plants. Now it can rain.
Despite the rain and lockdown the flowers have flourished. And tomorrow we start clearing and clearing and weeding for the first time since March. Precautions are in place, working in twos, our volunteers can’t wait to start. If you are in town give us a wave! 👋👋
What would Boston be without the volunteers from #BostonInBloom? The partnership was formed in 2012 by locals who care about the town and want to make a practical difference. Its main aim is to promote a cleaner and greener town. #VolunteersWeek2020 https://t.co/WpVcBk4m26
It is with sadness that the Boston in Bloom team have learnt that Frank Thompson, a greatly valued Blom member has died.
He worked tirelessly with his colleagues on Boston’s Memorial Gardens, an outstanding & prize winning remembrance of valiant service to our town and country.
We heard today from @RHSBloom that Britain in Bloom is postponed for 2020.
Our volunteers are very sad about this but in ones & twos, we hope to work occasionally. Not the vulnerable or sick, but we will obey all government guidelines.
We are at the raised bed behind the police station today clearing and planting. Want to join us? Bring a spade and secateurs. And wear wellies! It’s looking good.
Walking the roads in Boston today, getting a feel of the streets and what needs to be done.
Starting at our heritage station which will be planted up in April. #spring is on the way.
Alison and Paul have attended the @RHSBloom’s Finalists Seminar in Birmingham today.
An exciting and informative conference showing us how to represent @InMidlands throughout our national judging later in the year.
Friday saw our planting posse and partnership members head to Doughty Quay, transforming from #greytogreen.
Keep an eye on our social media for more news about it in a few weeks and more planting. @RHSBloom @InMidlands#britaininbloom#EMiB
As we start 2020, we’re looking at our strategies for this upcoming year.
Every year, we look for new sponsors to help finance & fund our continued campaigns.
With 2 judging periods this year, for the regional and national competitions, we’ve got a lot of plans & opportunities.
We’re absolutely delighted to announce that our fantastic Chair of the Partnership, @AlisonFairman, has been awarded a BEM for services to the community in Boston, in the 2020 New Years Honours list.
Our thanks and love goes to Alison.
