Nigeria’s digital economy has some big infrastructure projects entering deployment.
From 90,000km of fibre and 3,700 rural telecom sites to digital postcodes and skills programmes, the goal is to build the infrastructure, connectivity and talent needed to scale the digital economy.

In Nigeria, staying focused on long-term foundations can be tough, but few things are more rewarding. Our people deserve that investment.
What this developer is building with the new postcode system shows what Nigerians can do when those foundations are in place. This government is committed to laying many more.
To our builders: the postcode is yours to build on. What will you create?

"Some moments you plan for. Some moments you fight for.
Yesterday, Nigeria launched the National Digital Alphanumeric Postcode System. By the end of launch day, Nigerians had made almost 900,000 postcode requests, with a 99.8% success rate.
These are the people who carried this when it was only an idea. Through the long nights, the setbacks, the doubts, and the meetings that went nowhere, they kept building. NIPOST is in the middle of reform, and reform is hard, quiet work. It doesn’t give you many days to stop and celebrate.
Today is one of those days.
To every member of the NIPOST & Postcode team: this is your victory. You didn’t only build a system. You gave every Nigerian home, business and community an address that can be found, served and counted. Thank you for believing when it was hardest to believe.
This is only the beginning. The NIPOST we are building is one Nigerians can be proud of, and days like this are proof that it is coming" ~ @tola_odeyemi

We’ve agreed that every Nigerian deserves to be found but not everyone has a smartphone, access to the internet, or someone to show them how to find their postcode.
This is where we can help one another.
Visit https://t.co/2LBDanyNwE to find and save your building’s postcode.
Then, if you can, help three people find theirs. It could be your parents, a neighbour, a nearby trader, or someone who just needs a little guidance.
Ask their permission, help them identify the correct building, and show them how to save or write down the postcode.
If they can, encourage them to spread the word, and help someone else too. As we build a more connected Nigeria, each of us can help someone take that next step.
This is a simple act of neighbourliness.
Share your experience with me, without revealing anyone’s address or personal details.
NOTE: * Participation is voluntary, assistance is free, and taking part does not make anyone a government or @NipostNgn representative.

Who you work with determines how far you can go.
Nigeria, meet your Postmaster General, @tola_odeyemi!
It has been a pleasure working with Tola, whose leadership and determination, alongside her team at @NipostNgn, have brought our new National Digital Alphanumeric Postcode System to life.
Behind every milestone are people who put in the work. Today, I celebrate Tola and her team for delivering something that will touch lives across Nigeria.
Thank you, Tola. Proud of what we are building! We will make it count!
Everyone in Nigeria has a location. Now every location has a postcode.
Today, NIPOST launches the National Digital Postcode System, and I’m speaking to you from the heart of it: our new GIS lab, where every corner of Nigeria is being mapped and coded.
No more “turn left after the blue gate.” Your postcode connects you to deliveries, e-commerce, emergency services, banking and government services, wherever you are.
After a successful pilot in Abuja, it’s now live nationwide.

Proud to lead the team building infrastructure that puts every Nigerian on the map.
My deepest gratitude to President @officialasiwajubat for his vision and support under the Renewed Hope Agenda, and to the Hon. Minister @bosuntijani , whose leadership in building Nigeria’s digital economy made this possible.
Thank you to the NIPOST @nipostngn family, our partners, and every Nigerian who joined the exercise . This is national infrastructure built by Nigerians, for Nigerians.

@Sekoniolalekan1@fimiletoks There's an icon on the NIPOST app that allows you correct your house number. We should all know that things will keep improving with time. Feedbacks like this is what @Postcode_ng & @bosuntijani,@NIPOSTNG needs to see to at real time
God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria 🇳🇬
In 2011-2012, a few friends and I built WhereYouDey and it failed, not because the idea was wrong, but because Nigeria still had no reliable “where.” We mapped streets by foot deploying 100s of individuals across several cities to document landmarks and points of interest using mobile phones.
This was my first startup venture at age 29, which had me shuttling Nashville to Lagos, twice a month in the middle of building a corporate career. I be OG for tech ecosystem oh! 😀😀😀😀
It was exhilarating learning curve as the e-commerce ecosystem began seeing Silicon Valley interest. We self funded WhereYouDey out of pocket hoping to build a unicorn.
We could tell you the number of celestial churches, barbing salon locations and local bars using longitude and latitude coordinates we uploaded by hand alongside the business address directly into Google Maps integrated on our apps. 9 months in, Google sent a mail expressing interest in what we were building. They also wanted the data and they asked for a price. We declined!
These were businesses and points of interest that mattered, but the real data was customer addresses which https://t.co/pxfNo71kF9 resolves.
For example to ship out a phone from a whatsapp vendor, customers describe home address as “blue gate after the filling station off Okpanam road,” riders & dispatch burn fuel on failed trips, and the market was certainly not ready to pay for a fix.
NIPOST’s National Digital Alphanumeric Postcode, live from 1 October, was the missing layer. An 11-character code for every addressable building, tied to the structure, not the occupant: state, LGA, district, area, building.
Poor addressing costs ₦50 to ₦80 billion a year in missed and failed deliveries.
The opportunity is not another Jumia. It is the tools that make the postcode useful. The dispatch industry would see tremendous cost savings and efficiency with this new service.
From my vantage point, ecosystem builders should be looking at these opportunities & features to help scale.
- Checkout plugins that validate a postcode before payment, for Instagram, WhatsApp and Jumia sellers
- Rider apps that route by district and area code, not landmarks
- Pickup-point networks indexed by postcode, so last-mile cost drops
- WhatsApp and USSD lookup bots for people who will never open a map
- Cash on Delivery risk scores that flag high-failure areas before a bike leaves the hub
- Address cleanup for SMEs still storing “opposite the mosque” in Excel.
The code is public infrastructure and the products on top of it are still open. We were too early in 2012 with WhereYouDey. For others today, the address layer is finally here. Build on it! Wishing you plenty luck!
Find yours: https://t.co/pxfNo71kF9. kudos @bosuntijani and @tola_odeyemi for achieving this great feat. It is a game changer.
One more round of applause to a visionary President Bola Ahmed Tinubu @officialABAT. This is growth many will truly appreciate .

I have just checked my postcode now, I am impressed this is actually coming to reality.
Kudos to the minister @bosuntijani this is a great initiative.
I am of the opinion that a functioning address system will boost our logistics eco system. It might be a good time to begin to build fulfillment centres/warehouses in different states.
That said is there a way to make it shorter.
Already building on this! Track Technologies gives Lagos sellers and logistics operators real-time delivery tracking and automated WhatsApp updates for every order. Postcodes will make our address resolution even more accurate. Registering now 🛵
Launching Nigeria’s National Digital Alphanumeric Postcode System is the first step.
Its true impact will come as we weave it into how we live, do business, connect with one another and deliver services across every corner of our country.
Every postcode should mean something tangible: a customer reached, a delivery completed, a community better served, or emergency help arriving where it is needed.
In the days, weeks and months ahead, my office will work with @NipostNgn and key actors across government, business and the technology community to embed this new national asset in our everyday lives.
So to our developers and innovators, let’s build on it.
The API ( You can find documentation here - https://t.co/PFrEDDiCL3) provides a foundation for integrating the postcode into the products and services Nigerians use every day.
So go on and register your organisation: https://t.co/ESLWQuJRIT and start building.
To access the API:
1. Create an organisation account.
2. Submit your Know Your Business (KYB) documentation.
3. Request API access, specifying the access level you need.
4. Receive staging tokens to develop and test your integration.
5. Complete User Acceptance Testing (UAT) with NIPOST’s technical and compliance teams, where required.
6. Receive production tokens and go live.
I also want to hear your ideas.
How can we embed the alphanumeric postcode in commerce, transport, healthcare, agriculture, emergency response and community life?
What would you build, and what problem would it solve?
As Nigeria launches a new post code system, we celebrate another step forward in our journey towards a more connected nation.
Have you checked out the new postal code system yet?

Every Nigerian deserves to be found. Every business deserves the chance to reach its customers. And every community deserves to be within reach of opportunity.
Today, we are launching the National Digital Alphanumeric Postcode System by @NipostNgn , a significant step towards a Nigeria where your location connects you to more possibilities.
Think of the small business ready to deliver beyond its neighbourhood, the family waiting for emergency help and the community that government needs to reach with essential services.
An accurate postcode can make a meaningful difference in each of these lives.
As we work towards H.E. President @officialABAT’s ambition for a $1 trillion economy, we must build the foundations that allow more Nigerians to participate, trade and prosper. This is one of those foundations, and I am deeply excited about what we can build with it.
Please find your postcode here - https://t.co/GnUieOIwWp and start using it.
Share this video, encourage your family and friends to find theirs, and help us take this message into every community.
I also want to hear from you: Was finding your postcode easy? Have you started sharing and using it? What would you like it to make possible for you, your business or your community?
Share your experience in the comments because your feedback will help us make this work better for everyone.
Let’s put our communities on the map and bring opportunity closer to every Nigerian.
