@SuitUpVarsity Agreed. The issue with that is how well do we really take the time necessary to teach these skills at the youth level. And does full court 5 v 5 help all kids develop skills when they do play.
@tony_chapman76 Agreed!! We have to help youth coaches teach skills. Many doing same drills they did 20-30 years ago or end up scrimmaging most of practice to please kids and take pressure off them. Have to help them organize practice and be able to teach shooting, footwork, etc
Let me get this straight. Sam Hoiberg has only four turnovers in the last nine games. That is freakish considering how much he handles ball. Plus, he leads NU with 75 defensive rebounds. He’s 6-foot, BTW.
Teach your kids to play like Sam Hoiberg. 🏀
High school basketball isn’t measured by banners in the gym.
It’s measured by the kid who learns how to lead.
The kid who shows up when it’s hard.
And the kid who looks back years later and says, *”That team changed my life.”*
One of the hardest things to do with kids — young men in particular — is get them to sacrifice in the short term for long term benefit. Hell, most adults can’t do it. Well said by Northern Illinois coach Thomas Hammock here on new era in college sports: https://t.co/Y7bLKyRxtw
Everyone always talks about the cheap concessions or the limited commercials, but Augusta's no-phone policy is by far the best rule in sports.
No phones, just living in the moment.
@tony_chapman76 I think it’s more of the gap between the top 8 teams in each of the smaller classes and the next 10 best teams in those classes. Not a lot of close games in regular season. The gap is widening.
@dannykanell Most disappointing thing is many of these travel teams do very little skill development. Many say they do but instead spend most time doing team drills and scrimmaging. If your kids want to do more find people who can help them get more skilled and increase their IQ.
@tony_chapman76 Has there ever been consideration that you lose points when you play an opponent below your classification? Don’t think you should get 50 points when a C1 team beats a 15-5 class D1 team for example.
Chase greatness
Don’t settle
Never remain stagnant
Don’t let them box you in
Don’t let them define you
Don’t let them tell you what you can or can’t do
Do be different you’ll have to be disliked at some point.

All coaches in EVERY SPORT should listen to this nine minute video. I am so happy that my son got to play for Coach Rhule even if it was for only one year! Every parent should want to send their son to this guy for four or five years!
“Every single day I want to find something to believe in him with, something to inspire him with, I want to hold him to a high standard so he knows there’s no excuses. I want him to work because he sees me work.” -Matt Rhule
