RHP Aidan Curry, who is from Ossining, NY, was set to become a minor free agent, but had his contract selected by the Rangers and was added to the 40-man roster. Originally signed as an undrafted free agent out of high school in 2020 for $20,000.

Anyone planning on heading to the Rutgers vs St Joseph's scrimmage this Sunday? You might see me there.

Really good matchup between two squads with a lot of new faces.

After 20+ years behind the mic, I'll say it plainly: radio is still the most direct line from a team to its fans. It's in the car, on the job site, on the tractor. No paywall, no login, just a voice painting the picture. Baseball was built for that, and it still is. The game in its purest form.

Colaianni is someone to keep tabs on this spring at @dpbaseball26 . He was a late South Carolina commit so might be a tough sign. But he's been showing a lot of positive growth which could continue through the spring. The slider is s potential carrying tool.

Over 4 years ago but Cooper Pratt still rakes.

[Brian Recca @brian_recca]

Posted this previously but Cooper Pratt boosted his stock tremendously. This ball was absolutely smoked for a hard base knock. One of the better "body" guys at the event. Long, high-waist, projectable strength. Arm/actions for the left side of the infield. Strong finish to summer

As usual, I'm loving my @d1baseball subscription during fall report season. Tons of great info in each article. Highly recommend!

And there's already a bunch of northeast schools featured including Binghamton, UConn, Northeastern, Rutgers, and BC.

[Brian Recca @brian_recca]

Saw Cassels two springs ago when he came in to relieve Marcelo Harsch. Sat around 90 with an absolute banger breaking ball. Made sure to circle his name.

Missed the spring last year with an injury but hes back in a BIG way.

[D1Baseball @d1baseball]

Freshman righty Patrick Cassels is already turning heads with @RutgersBaseball.

The under-the-radar recruit touched 95 mph and retired all five batters he faced against Boston College, showing off a four-pitch mix with the potential to turn over lineups.

[D1Baseball @d1baseball]

JJ Drennan headlines a talented crop of freshman arms for @BCBirdBall.

The projectable righty touched 98 mph in our fall look, settling in the mid-90s while flashing a changeup and multiple distinct breaking balls. He looks capable of making an impact right away.

IMO, the Rays and Brewers would be among the teams hurt the most by a shortened draft and removal of high school players.

Amateur draft/scouting is a cheap way for lower budget teams like TB/MIL to gain an edge over the competition. Both orgs. do a great job in the northeast.

[Bob Nightengale @BNightengale]

While the Milwaukee Brewers and Tampa Bay Rays are lauded for their analytic departments, lost is the fact they have two of the top 10 largest scouting staffs.
In fact, the Rays have the largest pro scouting staff in MLB

[D1Baseball @d1baseball]

Gabriel Rivera looks ready to build on a breakout freshman season with @RutgersBaseball.

The infielder hit .310/.419/.448 for the Scarlet Knights before earning @PGCBLbaseball Player of the Year honors with a .378/.522/.731 slash line, 10 homers and 17 steals in 36 summer games.

[Brian Recca @brian_recca]

@aria_gerson With Coastal staff moving to South Carolina and UVA staff moving to Miss State, I imagine they'll be players up here as well.

[Brian Recca @brian_recca]

Kyle McBride has looked the part for years now. Butter smooth operator. Breaker will firm up and be a consistent weapon at the next level, probably at Wake. Someone I'd still want to develop in an org. before he blows up in college.

[Jordan Miller @JordanMiller_PS]

Kyle McBride ('27,NJ)⚡️

Uber athletic on the bump at 6'2" 185lb - the @WakeBaseball commit impressed at the #BostonClassic.

Legit 4- pitch mix; ran the FB up to 91 tunneling a firm SL at 82. Repeatable controlled delivery w/ fast arm + explosive lower half.

If we're being serious and including Nockley at #1, then these guys need to be in the 2-5 convo

Jack Swanson
Finnian O'Loughlin
Derek Yormack
Jack Nicholls
Owen Burnes

Bunch of others beyond those 5 but I think this is a good starring point.

My Too Early Top 5 Northeast Prep Players for '27 Draft:

[Brian Recca @brian_recca]

Here's a good look at Faigin at Jupiter. He's a southpaw in the midst of a velo boost with a heater that should miss bats in the zone. Can improve the fastball/breaker tunnel.
