JUST NOW: A fire broke out on a boat near Alcatraz Island in San Francisco Bay on the afternoon of July 14, 2026, injuring several people.

San Francisco Fire Department responded to the incident, which occurred in a high-traffic tourist area known for Alcatraz ferry routes.

A large wildfire has swept through Fontainebleau Forest, south of Paris, scorching nearly 2,000 hectares (about 4,900 acres).

The blaze has forced roughly 1,000 people to evacuate, and authorities have detained six individuals in connection with the fires.

While that isn't the air temperature, it shows just how dangerously hot the canyon can become during the summer. Inner canyon air temperatures regularly climb above 100°F, and the surrounding rock makes conditions even more extreme.

🔥CANADIAN WILDFIRE SMOKE RETURNS TO THE TRI-STATE THIS WEEK... 🌫️

A strengthening area of high pressure and a favorable jet stream pattern will pull wildfire smoke south into the Northeast by Thursday. Expect increasingly hazy skies, reduced air quality, and the smell of smoke to become noticeable—even across NYC.

Combined with the building heat and humidity, it'll make for a very uncomfortable end to the week.
