It’s Sunday morning and I confess I’m lying in bed allowing my mind to remember what mornings like this used to be like.

I’ve been married for 18 years now, but there was a time when I’d wake up next to a stranger I’d met the night before. My head would be killing me, I’d stink of drink, and I’d make some excuse to leave, saying I’d call her.

I rarely did.

Then one Sunday morning, in a dank room that stank of alcohol, I heard a voice:

“Go to church. Your life depends on it.”

There was no one there. Just those words.

So I went.

I walked into church stinking of the night before and looking as angry as I possibly could.

But instead of judgement, I was greeted with love and acceptance.

That Sunday was the beginning of my journey to Jesus Christ.

I look back at the man I was and then look at my life today.

18 years married. A husband. A father. And, above everything else, a follower of Jesus Christ.

I was a slave.

Jesus set me free.

“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” — John 8:36 (ESV)

There is no other way to the Father except through the Son.

Jesus Christ is the Way, the Truth and the Life.

Everything else that promises salvation apart from Him is a false hope from an enemy who comes only to steal, kill and destroy.

Jesus came that we may have life — and have it abundantly.

“I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” — John 14:6 (ESV)

I’ve been watching the news from different sources, and it feels as though hope is being stripped away before our eyes.

Wars and rumours of wars. A changing climate and extreme weather. Political leaders wielding enormous power. Fear, uncertainty and division.

Yet my spirit rejoices all the more.

Why? Because my hope was never in governments, politicians or this world. My hope is in Jesus Christ.

I believe we are watching biblical prophecy unfold before our eyes, and every day reminds me that Jesus will return.

Now is not the time to fear.
Now is the time to turn to the Lord.
Now is the time to be ready.

Jesus Christ is our hope.

“Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming.” — Matthew 24:42 (ESV)
