The SS United States set sail from its longtime home of Philadelphia Wednesday morning and traveled under the Walt Whitman Bridge while en-route to its final voyage. 🚢
The SS United States sails into the sunset to meet her fate as an artificial reef off the the coast of Okaloosa County, Florida.
The first leg of her journey to a watery grave began today leaving her berth of the last 29 years in Philadelphia. I caught her from a park in Pennsville, NJ, as she passed under the Delaware Memorial Bridge. Built in 1950/51 The SS United States still holds the record for fastest trans-Atlantic crossing.
Goodbye old girl. I will miss seeing you on my stops in Philly.
