and his brother had just started a band and had lots of questions about band life. After it aired there was an immediate audience shift from a bunch of guys in Carolina Gamecocks hats to a flood of young girls. It was great! We refer to it as the My So-Called Life Effect.
31 Years ago today - The Pike Street Show
There is a clear before 'My So-Called Life' and after 'My So-Called Life.' We had just released 'Big Red Letter Day' and Sodajerk was getting some airplay. Our management team basically got a cold call from a producer who said
they needed a live club performance for a new MTV show that was being filmed so we said 'Sure.' That's it. One of the producers was a fan and thought we would be a good fit for the episode. It was a good experience, everyone was very nice. We hung out with the cast, Jared Leto
After our set, Tom's cousin, who hosted the party, came up and said some guy was playing the drums, so Tom went to see who it was and it turned out to be J Mascis. Tom told him that was fine. - Bill
We played our first show at a house party in Amherst, around this time in 1986. I remember we were still figuring out the instruments—Chris had never played bass before, Tom had never played drums in a band. We set up in the living room, maybe 30 kids there.
