One of the hardest things about loving people is realizing that their pain doesn't disappear just because you'd do anything to take it away.
Sometimes I look at my brothers, my parents, my friends, and wish I could make life a little easier for them.
I wish I could take some of their worries, some of their disappointments, some of the things they've had to carry on their own.
I wish loving someone meant you could protect them from the things that hurt them.
But it doesn't.
You can love someone with everything you have and still have to watch them struggle. You can be willing to give them everything and still be unable to give them the one thing you want most for them: a life that hurts a little less.
I think about that more than I probably let on.
I just hope the people I love know how much I want good things for them. How badly I want to see them happy. How much it means to me to see them catch a break.
Because if there's one thing I wish I could give them, it's the chance to breathe for a while without having to worry about what life is going to ask of them next.
