In the past 12 hours, Calgary has experienced 2 pedestrian fatalities in separate collisions. We are now on par with the 10-year high of fatal collisions in Calgary. So far in 2025, Calgary has seen over 300 collisions involving pedestrians, including 10 fatalities.

October is Pedestrian Safety Month in Alberta’s Traffic Safety Calendar & we are urging Calgarians to exercise extra caution. Please stay alert, distraction-free & slow down.

Road safety is a shared responsibility. We ask both motorists & pedestrians to look out for one another to help prevent further tragedies.

Tips for drivers:
🔹 Make eye contact with pedestrians
🔹 Drive at a safe speed & stop for pedestrians at crosswalks
🔹 Never pass a vehicle at a crosswalk
🔹 Avoid distractions by keeping your eyes on the road & devices out of your hands

Tips for pedestrians:
🔹 Use crosswalks & sidewalks
🔹 Look both ways before crossing the street
🔹 Follow traffic signs & signals
🔹 Avoid distractions & limit the use of earphones & devices when walking
