Early this morning, CAL FIRE sent 15 fire engines, one Agency Representative, and one mechanic, totaling 53 personnel to Colorado to help support firefighting efforts on the Aspen Acres Fire burning in Custer and Pueblo Counties.
These firefighters are expected to assist in Colorado for up to 14 days.
This deployment also marks a first for CAL FIRE, as it is the first time we have sent firefighting resources to Colorado through the National Association of State Foresters State-to-State Partnership.
We are proud to support our partners and communities beyond California when help is needed.
Happy Independence Day, California.
Today, our nation marks 250 years. This milestone belongs to the communities, first responders, and everyday Americans who have given everything to protect it.
Remember to celebrate safely, legally, and accident-free.

🔥 Built for this. Ready for more.
This week, young women from across California came together for a week of challenge, growth, and discovery at Camp Cinder San Luis Obispo. Along the way, they worked as a team, learned new skills, pushed through obstacles, and discovered strengths they may not have known they had.
We are proud of every young woman who showed up, put in the work, and left knowing they are capable of more than they imagined. The confidence earned at Camp Cinder doesn't stay on the training grounds. It goes with them wherever they choose to go next. 🙌

Fireworks can quickly turn celebration into wildfire.
If you are going to use fireworks, only use Safe and Sane fireworks where they are legally permitted.
Already this year, nearly 50 wildfires in CAL FIRE jurisdiction have been caused by fireworks. Last year, fireworks sparked 746 fires, burned about 600 acres, injured many, and contributed to 8 deaths.
Illegal fireworks are never safe.
For America’s 250th, help protect your community.
Leave fireworks to the pros.

“We need to go. Get in the truck.”
During the 2024 Airport Fire, those words helped save lives.
CAL FIRE Division Chief John Crater and Battalion Chief Mike Martinez were recognized as 2026 Medal of Valor recipients for their actions helping residents evacuate as the fire threatened their community.
Their quick action reflects the courage, judgment, and service shown by CAL FIRE personnel in moments when lives are on the line.

Every year, we respond to thousands of wildfires statewide.
Behind every wildfire contained, every community protected, and every home saved, there are countless wildland firefighters who made it happen.
Today is National Wildland Firefighter Day, and we want to take a moment to recognize the incredible dedication of our wildland firefighters who work year-round to keep California safe. To our CAL FIRE family and wildland fire partners nationwide: thank you for your service, your sacrifice, and your commitment to protecting wildlands.

Today, we honor those who, throughout our department’s history, lost their lives in the line of duty during the month of July.
Their service reflects the highest level of commitment to protecting California’s communities, natural resources, and one another. We remember their courage, their sacrifice, and the families, friends, and colleagues who continue to carry their legacy forward.
We will never forget.

Enjoy fireworks WITHOUT the risk.
Every year, illegal and unsafe fireworks spark wildfires, cause serious injuries, and flood 911 centers with emergency calls statewide.
Before you celebrate this Independence Day:
✔ Only purchase fireworks with the "Safe & Sane" seal.
✔ Check your local city and county laws. Fireworks aren't legal everywhere in California.
✔ Use safe and sane fireworks ONLY in the community where you bought them.
Protect your community. Protect our first responders. Celebrate safely.

🚨 IF YOU SEE SMOKE, FLY AWAY!
When you see wildfire smoke, CAL FIRE and partner aircraft are likely working that fire — dropping retardant, coordinating suppression, and saving lives. Entering that airspace puts everyone at risk.
Flying into active wildfire airspace is a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) violation, and it could ground the aircraft protecting your communities. Do not risk a midair collision. Know the rules before you fly. Protect the pilots protecting your state.

CAL FIRE mourns the loss of three federal wildland firefighters who died while assigned to a wildfire in western Colorado.
Our thoughts are with their families, loved ones, coworkers, and the entire federal wildland firefighting community.
We wish the two firefighters injured in the incident a full recovery.

☀️ Weekend plans? Make wildfire safety part of them.
Don’t do the right thing the wrong way.
A mower blade hitting a rock, a tow chain dragging on pavement, or a hot vehicle parked in dry grass can all spark a wildfire. With summer heat drying out grass and other flashy fuels, one preventable accident is all it takes.
About 95% of wildfires in California are human caused. Help prevent the next one.

Camp Cinder Shasta just wrapped, and these young women showed up ready. 🔥
For one week, campers from across California joined us to train in wildland firefighting, structure fire response, auto extrication, and water rescue, led by a team of female fire service instructors.
Camp Cinder is built on a simple idea: give young women a real, hands-on look at the fire service. Over the course of the week, that meant building new skills, forming new friendships, and building confidence.
To everyone who gave it their all this week: well done, and thank you.

🚩 UPDATE: Forecast confidence has increased that critical fire weather conditions will continue through 11 PM Saturday.
Additional areas are now included under Red Flag Warnings, with stronger winds, very low humidity, and poor overnight recovery supporting rapid fire spread, especially across desert and mountain areas. There is also concern for holdover lightning-caused fire starts in eastern San Bernardino County. Stay prepared, enable emergency alerts, and review your evacuation plan.
For the most up-to-date warning information and affected areas, follow the National Weather Service.

🚩 RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT 🚩
A Red Flag Warning has been issued for portions of southeastern California from 11 AM Friday through 11 PM Saturday.
Areas include Death Valley National Park, the Mojave Desert, including Morongo Valley and Yucca Valley, and the Lower Colorado River Valley. Strong winds and critically low humidity are expected, creating conditions where any fire start could spread rapidly.
Be ready, and not reactive. Pack a go bag, sign up for emergency alerts, prepare your home for wildfire, and review your evacuation plan now.
Stay informed and monitor updates from the National Weather Service.

🌲 Let’s talk trees.
California’s 14 Demonstration State Forests are as diverse as the state itself, managed by CAL FIRE as living laboratories for sustainable forest management.
From towering redwoods to mixed conifer stands, these forests represent the full range of California’s forest types, helping us learn how to better manage, protect, and sustain them for generations to come.
