CATL will supply battery energy storage systems for Edify Energy's Smoky Creek and Guthrie's Gap Solar Power Stations in Queensland, Australia—a 600MW hybrid solar and battery energy storage power station comprising 720MWp solar and 2,400MWh of battery storage. This strategic collaboration marks a significant milestone in deploying large-scale technology to support regional net-zero targets.
Located north of Biloela, the Smoky Creek and Guthrie's Gap Solar Power Stations consist of two independent 300MW generating units: the Smoky Creek Solar Power Station (SCSPS) and Guthrie’s Gap Solar Power Station (GGSPS), both connecting to the Powerlink network at 275kV.
To ensure maximum network resilience, the project will utilise CATL’s advanced energy storage solutions integrated with cutting-edge grid-forming inverters employing a reverse DC-coupled hybrid configuration.
By delivering highly reliable, dispatchable renewable energy to the local network, these projects establish a new benchmark for utility-scale firmed renewables and accelerates the decarbonisation of Australia’s energy infrastructure.

Recently, CATL and Solarpro signed a 2GWh TENER Sodium cooperation agreement, planning to jointly deploy the first large-scale sodium-ion battery storage project in Central and Eastern Europe this year.
The deal features CATL's TENER Sodium, which offers a 15,000-cycle lifespan (25 to 30 years of operational life) and retains 92% of its capacity at -20°C, making it ideally suited for harsh Eastern European winters where temperatures can drop to -15°C to -20°C.
Building on past successes—including a 150MWh EnerC+ system in 2024 and a grid-connected 601MWh TENER project in May 2026 that expanded Bulgaria's storage capacity by 10%—this agreement extends the mutual partnership into cutting-edge sodium-ion technology.
Looking ahead, CATL aims to advance Europe's green energy transition through innovative energy storage solutions and promote the large-scale commercial application of sodium-ion battery energy storage technology globally.

Recently, CATL and @AlfenNV announced their continued collaboration to deploy 5GWh of CATL's TENER sodium-ion battery energy storage systems in Western European countries, including the Netherlands.
CATL's TENER Sodium boasts an ultra-long lifespan of 25 years and an overall system RTE improvement of nearly 2%, achieving a much lower TCO. Also, it's compatible with lithium iron phosphate systems, allowing Alfen to diversify its battery material choices and better cope with lithium price fluctuations.
This collaboration with Alfen marks the first deployment of TENER Sodium in the European market. Through this cooperation, CATL will accumulate localized experience in applying the TENER Sodium within the European power grid, improve its compatibility with European power grid standards, and accelerate the large-scale adoption of sodium-ion energy storage technology in Europe.
