Working to lift Black women and girls in policy discussions in Congress and on the national stage. Co-chairs @RepBonnie @RepYvetteClarke and @RepRobinKelly
Building an economy for all means supporting marginalized communities.
Black people — especially Black women — face nearly insurmountable barriers to achieving the American Dream. The "Black Women Best" framework proposes that we smash those barriers.

Since day one, Secretary Hegseth has attacked our servicewomen and women veterans.
He has wrongly claimed that women don’t meet the standards to serve in combat roles, ripped away resources to help integrate servicewomen, and disrespected women in uniform at every turn.
This news isn’t an anomaly, it is a part of a coordinated and sustained strategy to undermine and erase women and people of color.

66 years ago today the FDA approved the first birth control pill—a crucial step towards women’s reproductive freedom.
Decades later, women have fewer reproductive rights than their mothers and aunts did.
Reproductive freedom should not depend on your zip code, income, or insurance.
More than 80% of maternal deaths are preventable. We know how to save lives and end our nation’s maternal health crisis, and that solution is the Momnibus Act.
During Black Maternal Health Week, we raise awareness of and take action to end our maternal health crisis. Black women are three times more likely to die from a pregnancy-related cause.
My HealthyMOM Act, which I introduced with @Sen_Alsobrooks would save countless lives by creating a Special Enrollment Period for mothers when they are pregnant.

America is the wealthiest nation in the world, with resources beyond our ancestors’ wildest dreams. And that is why it is not only heartbreaking, but insulting to see Black mothers – our sisters, neighbors, and friends – continue to suffer a disproportionate and tragic maternal mortality rate in comparison to non-Black mothers.
Their lives should be a policy priority, and not another broken promise.
This Black Maternal Health Week, we must commit to passing @repunderwood’s Momnibus and protecting the women suffering at the hands of an intentionally negligent healthcare system.
During Black Maternal Health Week, I'm highlighting programs like the free South Side doula initiative, real solutions that saves lives.
Community-led care closes the gap and gives Black mothers the support our health systems have failed to provide for far too long.

Black women deserve to be safe and supported before, during, and long after pregnancy.
During Black Maternal Health Week, we’re not just raising awareness, we’re pushing solutions. Here are some bills our members introduced to address every stage of care and every driver of this inequity.
My heart and condolences are with my dear sister, @Sen_Alsobrooks, as she confronts this time of terrible grief.
You made your father proud, Angela. May he rest in eternal paradise and everlasting power.
It was a pleasure to host Sorors nationwide during the 37th Annual Delta Days in the Nation's Capital! In a world riddled with war, injustice, and threats to civil and voting rights, now more than ever, we must continue to uphold our principles centered in service, advocacy, and social action.
The powerful presence of changemakers and community trailblazers on the Hill today reminded me why I am so honored to call myself a woman of @dst1913!
Black women drive our economy. Yet barriers still hold too many back.
I joined leaders and advocates this Women’s History Month to confront wage gaps, unequal access to capital, and attacks on opportunity.
We must protect our progress and keep pushing forward.
Women earn only 81 cents compared to a man’s dollar. The gap is even wider for women of color. It doesn’t matter if a Black woman has a PhD—she still earns less than a man doing the same work. As a Black woman with a PhD, that’s more than concerning.
Pay us what we deserve. Period.
Happy International Women’s Day!
Today, we honor the strength, ambition and resilience of women everywhere.
House Democrats are committed to standing up for women’s rights.
On this International Women’s Day, we recommit to our fight for a better future—one that protects care, defends survivors, lifts up families, and supports all women.
We won’t back down.
On #InternationalWomensDay, while Donald Trump attacks women and fuels his chaos, the @DemWomenCaucus is standing firm.
We are standing firm against this administration’s reckless disregard for our freedoms. We’ve come too far to let bullies break us.
When I came to Congress, I saw a gap in representation for Black women & girls.
With @RepYvetteClarke & @RepBonnie, we founded the @CBWGCaucus to bring their voices to Congress.
This Women’s History Month and beyond, we make sure Black women’s contributions are seen and protected.
Happy Women’s History Month!💟
This March, we honor the tireless leadership, courage, and vision of the women whose resilience and actions continue to inspire their nation. From my district to the halls of Congress and the international stage, the women we are celebrating this month have truly demonstrated what it looks like to lead without fear.
I thank these women for their trailblazing leadership, and the unwavering bravery by which they live. Let’s continue to break barriers, bring change, and inspire generations of women to come!

I've been horrified to see videos circulating on social media of Black women in labor being ignored or dismissed in healthcare settings.
I’m proud to cosponsor the WELLS Act, by @RepRobinKelly, which urges hospitals to create a Safe Discharge Labor Plan before sending any pregnant patient home.
Every woman, no matter the color of her skin, should be treated with dignity and care.
The WELLS Act honors Mercedes Wells, a Black woman who was discharged from a hospital despite being in active labor and had to give birth in a truck.
This is an avoidable trauma that no woman should face, but Mercedes’s story is just one of many. With stories and experiences such as these, it is no wonder why the U.S. has the highest maternal mortality rate of all our peer nations and a rate which is 3x higher for Black moms. #EndMaternalMortality
