In 2023:
- 6.1M million people officially counted as unemployed
- 5.3M who wanted to work but were *not* officially counted as unemployed
- 4.1M who wanted to work full-time but could only find part-time work

ICYMI: Chinese AI usage passed US AI usage back in May, and this time it did not go back to the US. By early July, Chinese AI usage was running about 40% ahead.

LEAKED AUDIO: Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth told employees that he would like to sue workers who leak, saying on a weekly meeting: "We fine and fire leakers all the time. We tend not to sue those people, but I'd like to..."

When Meta began using employee data to train AI without worker consent, over 1,800 Meta workers signed a petition asking to end the Model Capability Initiative (MCI). Bosworth claims these people “made the entire company worse.”

Because of the workers collective action and an internal data breach where private data was exposed, Meta management ended the nonconsensual MCI surveillance program.

Now the company's CTO is lashing out against workers, and appears to be equating worker organizing to leaking, even hinting at threatening workers for their protected organizing.

3/ They note Venezuela's economy shrank 74% over the past decade during sanctions — three times the scale of the US Great Depression — leaving it far less able to respond to a disaster of this scale. The existing $300M in aid and limited waivers, they write, are "entirely insufficient."
