AI governance is no longer a “nice to have” in financial services, it is becoming essential.
In our latest CFTE AI in Finance Academy webinar, we had the pleasure of welcoming Dr Amira Abdelaziz for a session on:
“Beyond the Horizon: Singularity, Finance and the Governance Imperative.”
Dr Amira Abdelaziz explored what rapidly advancing AI could mean for financial services, from credit scoring and insurance pricing to fraud detection, robo-advisory and regulatory oversight.
One of the key messages from the session was clear: as AI becomes more embedded in financial decision-making, institutions need to govern it before it governs them.
Some of the main takeaways included:
AI governance must be embedded from the beginning, not added later.
Financial institutions need visibility over every AI system they use.
Customer-impacting AI decisions must be explainable and challengeable.
High-risk areas such as credit scoring, anti-money laundering and insurance pricing require stronger oversight.
Diverse voices are urgently needed in this emerging leadership space.
Dr Amira also shared a practical starting point for institutions: conduct an AI inventory, classify systems by risk, appoint a named AI governance owner, implement explainability logging and schedule regular model audits.
Thank you to Dr Amira for such a thoughtful and practical session, and to everyone who joined the discussion.
At CFTE - Centre for Finance, Technology and Entrepreneurship, we are proud to continue helping finance professionals, institutions, regulators and governments build the capabilities needed to navigate AI responsibly.

We'll be in the room. Will you?
Europe’s challenge is not a lack of capital. It is a lack of channels, capabilities, and execution speed.
The Draghi Report named the investment gap. The ECB has since revised it upward. Yet European households save at nearly four times the rate of US households.
The question is how Europe turns savings into productive investment — at the speed and scale needed to compete.
That is why the Savings and Investments Union matters. But policy frameworks alone are not enough. Europe also needs professionals who can navigate finance, technology, AI, regulation, and capital markets together.
At CFTE, this is what we mean by supercharged professionals: people equipped to operate at the intersection of finance, technology, AI, regulation, and execution.
That conversation will be happening at Point Zero Forum, Zurich, June 23–25.

The Industry Moment: Mythos as a collective wake-up call for finance
Mythos was more than a milestone. It was a signal that the third wave of AI has arrived.
Wave I: AI that could predict
Wave II: AI that could reason
Wave III: AI that can act, plan, and execute autonomously
Across finance, regulation, and institutional leadership, the question is shifting from: “What is AI doing?” to “What does this mean for how we work, govern, and compete?”
That is the right question. And it deserves a structured answer.
AI capability is compounding. Costs are falling. The access gap between large and small institutions is closing faster than most strategic plans assumed.
For finance professionals, regulators, and leaders, this is a moment of genuine opportunity — but only for those who build the right capability now.
That is why CFTE has built a free 90-minute course: Exponential AI and the Impact on Financial Services.
Taught by Huy NGUYEN TRIEU, Co-Founder of CFTE - Centre for Finance, Technology and Entrepreneurship, and Professor Douglas Arner, Professor in Law at the University of Hong Kong and Associate Director at the Cambridge Centre for Alternative Finance, the course helps finance professionals build a structured lens for what comes next.
