Canada honours the 329 people, including 268 Canadians, killed in the Air India flight 182 terrorist attack 41 years ago today. We stand with their families, who have carried this loss and sought justice for the worst terrorist attack in Canadian history, for four decades.
High Commissioner Shri Dinesh Patnaik joined families of the victims, representatives of the Government of Canada, and diplomats from Ireland, United States and the United Kingdom in Ottawa to mark the 41st anniversary of the Air India Flight AI-182 ‘Kanishka’ bombing - one of the deadliest acts of aviation terrorism in the world and the worst mass murder in Canadian history.
Paying tribute to the resilience, dignity and tenacity of the families who have carried this loss across generations, he underscored the need for active remembrance, preservation of institutional memory, education of future generations about terrorism’s human cost, global accountability for perpetrators and enablers of terrorism, and zero tolerance for terrorism in all its forms and manifestations so that such a tragedy never happens again.
41 ans plus tard, nous nous souvenons des victimes du vol 182 d’Air India et soutenons leurs familles.
Le Canada reste déterminé à lutter contre le terrorisme et l’extrémisme violent pour protéger la sécurité de tous.
Forty-one years later, we continue to remember the victims of Air India Flight 182 and stand with the families who have carried this loss for decades.
Canada remains committed to confronting terrorism and violent extremism, and to protecting the safety and security of Canadians.
Today in Ireland, I joined families, community members, first responders, and dignitaries to commemorate the anniversary of the Air India Flight 182 tragedy.
