The bioethics circle jerks during the Human Genome Project, which were allocated 5% of the project's funding, were a total waste of time.

They had countless conferences and workshops imagining bad things that could happen like punitive health insurance rates based on genetic risk, none of which actually came to pass. Meanwhile all the real issues that arose from ubiquitous DNA data, like accidentally doxing your criminal relatives with your own 23andMe data, were never imagined.

It's a condemnation of the precautionary principle. Philosophers can make up all sorts of hypothetical scenarios in a vacuum but it's nothing like actually trying things and seeing all the weird second and third-order consequences that emerge and *then* dealing with the unwelcome ones.

My experience as well.

Carrot: Astra is amazing, by far the best at the moment, and fast.
Stick: Claude was getting slow and I was running out of tokens way too fast.

I'm 100% Codex at this point for coding and day-to-day tasks.

Extraordinary share gains for OpenAI vs. Anthropic over the last two months.

Per Openrouter, OpenAI has gone from 20% share to 50% share vs. Anthropic (meaning Anthropic has gone from 80% to 50%) since June.

PSA: My X account got hacked for a day (now back, thanks to X support), because I got social engineered with a neat trick. Watch out for this one:

I got a DM saying that one of my posts had been flagged for content infringement, linking to the post which did indeed have a random image that I had lazily grabbed from a Google search. Fair cop, I thought, and fixed the image and then clicked the link in the DM to appeal, which required me to log into X again.

Well, as you can see, I should have looked at the URL more carefully ("https://t.co/vapzvWmKzu") and sure enough a minute later I got notification that my associated email had been changed and with that I had lost the account.

Fortunately, I now have the account back and I don't think anything else bad happened, since I don't use X to log into other accounts. But if you get a DM like this, be wary!
