Action against illegal Wildlife Trade continues: Tokay Gecko Rescued in Kaziranga
In a crackdown on illegal wildlife trade, the Bokakhat Range team apprehended Rahul Karmakar of Kohora at Latabari for his alleged involvement in the illegal trade of a Tokay Gecko, a Schedule I protected species under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.
One live Tokay Gecko was recovered from his possession.
Further investigation is underway to trace the source and identify others potentially involved in the illegal trade.

Chief Minister of Assam Shri @himantabiswa ji visited my Delhi residence today for the first time since taking oath for his second consecutive term as Chief Minister of Assam. We discussed ways to further strengthen and streamline the implementation of #SamagraShiksha in Assam, with a focus on ensuring robust and seamless financial support for teachers under the Scheme. We also discussed ensuring seamless fund flow under the SNA-SPARSH mechanism, in line with the Scheme’s framework, to facilitate timely salary disbursement and strengthen the delivery of quality and equitable school education across Assam.
Manuscripts preserved for generations in our Namghars and Satras were damaged by the recent floods in Sivasagar, Charaideo and Jorhat.
Under the leadership of Hon’ble CM Dr. @himantabiswa Dangoriya, the Assam Government has taken steps for their assessment, immediate conservation, restoration and safe preservation. Documentation and digital preservation through the Gyan Bharatam Portal are also underway.
