Colorado and its citizens should not be held hostage or extorted because of the actions of Tina Peters, a convicted felon who undermined election integrity.

Colorado’s election integrity standards are among the toughest in the nation. Tina Peters failed to uphold those standards, and a jury of her peers in Mesa County, a county Donald Trump carried with more than 60 percent of the vote, convicted her on multiple felony charges stemming from the breach and tampering of election systems. Federal prosecutors chose not to pursue charges, but Colorado law worked, and accountability was delivered.

It is painful to see someone we once worked with make choices that undermined the responsibilities of her office. But those choices were hers. Her conviction is a reminder that no one is above the law. Anyone who interferes with or attempts to corrupt our election systems will be held accountable. That is how we protect our elections and our constitutional republic.

On a call today, a bipartisan group of elected clerks said Polis hasn't agreed to meet with them about their concerns.
