COREN Sensitizes NYSC Corps Members on Engineering Regulation at Iyana-Ipaja Camp
The COREN Lagos Regional Office undertook a sensitization visit to the Lagos Permanent Orientation Camp of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) at Iyana-Ipaja, Lagos, on Thursday, 24th June 2026.
The engagement was designed to educate newly deployed Corps Members and Camp Management on the mandate, regulatory functions, and statutory responsibilities of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN).
The visit further emphasized the importance of adherence to professional standards in engineering practice as a critical component of national development and public safety.

COREN CONDUCTS ACCREDITATION VISIT TO LAGOS STATE MATERIALS TESTING LABORATORY
The Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), in line with its mandate to regulate the education, training and practice of engineering in Nigeria, deployed a visitation team comprising industry and academia experts to assess the Lagos State Materials Testing Laboratory (LSMTL) for accreditation.
The exercise, held in Lagos from Wednesday, 17th to Saturday, 20th June 2026, evaluated the laboratory’s facilities, processes, and compliance with established engineering standards, in furtherance of COREN’s commitment to quality assurance and public safety.

COREN PRESIDENT HOSTS DELEGATION FROM FEDERATION OF TOURISM ASSOCIATIONS OF NIGERIA (FTAN)
On 19th June 2026, the President of COREN, *Engr. Prof. Sadiq Z. Abubakar, FNSE, FAEng,* received a delegation from the National Executive Council of the *Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria (FTAN),* led by its President, *Alhaji Badaki Aliyu, Ph.D*., at the COREN Headquarters, Abuja.
The delegation stated that the purpose of the visit was to seek collaboration and gain deeper insight into COREN’s operational framework, particularly its systems for engineering regulation, with a view to learning from and adapting relevant best practices.

COREN Holds ERM&E Interactive Session Ahead of Gaduwa Building Collapse Investigation
The Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), on Thursday, 21st May, 2026, held a strategic interactive session at the COREN Headquarters, Abuja, ahead of the constitution of an investigating panel into the recent collapse of a three-storey building under construction in Gaduwa District, Abuja.
The session, led by the Registrar/Chief Executive Officer of COREN, Engr. Prof. O. A. Uche, FNSE, brought together key stakeholders within the engineering and construction sector, including representatives of the Abuja Development Control Department and other professionals connected to the project.
Addressing participants, the Registrar stated that the investigating panel, expected to be constituted within the next two weeks, would establish the facts surrounding the collapse, identify all professionals and parties involved, and recommend appropriate actions in line with COREN’s statutory mandate.
He expressed concern over the recent spate of building collapses, describing the menace as a threat to public safety, professional integrity, and national development. He reiterated that COREN would intensify its enforcement operations nationwide to curb quackery and ensure strict compliance with engineering standards and ethical practices.
Stakeholders at the session emphasized the importance of collaboration among regulatory agencies, quality assessment of construction materials, and effective project supervision to prevent future structural failures and safeguard lives and property.
