For CSS, I would always refer to CSS Secrets by @LeaVerou. The first time I found about the book was in 2015 and it holds the same value as it did back then.
“Why is the SVG path syntax so cryptic? Back when it was designed, it was believed that nobody would author SVG by hand, so the SVG WG went for the most compact syntax possible, to reduce filesize.”

@javavvitch An absolute classic ! The only thing to possibly top this are @LeaVerou’s live presentations. Ahhh... in person confs. Soon again I’m sure. Enjoy!
Top 3 dev books?
* @PragmaticAndy’s and @PragDave’s The Pragmatic Programmer 👍
* @LeaVerou’s CSS Secrets 👍
* @StevenSkiena’s The Algorithm Design Manual 👍
Of my own? 😅 Not sure! I’ve grown fond of the Web Dev Glossary, but perhaps The Little Book of HTML/CSS Frameworks!
Huh, even in 2020, 5 years after it was published, @csssecretsbook was recommended as the "best of the best CSS book" by @chicagotribune : https://t.co/Cip2ViypLw
