You can SAY that you want something all day long…
But until you:
1. Evaluate the problems to solve authentically & comprehensively
2. Develop an action plan that has fidelity to the full representative truth of what it will take
-and-
3. Execute daily and ferociously with a focus on controllable habits over uncontrollable outcome…
… You will not realize what you SAY that you want.
The “cleanest” players are those who can get it done in the most “dirty” ways.
The most resourceful coaches are the ones who can still build with the least amount of resources.
The most successful leaders are the ones who have failed the most.
Undesirable = ⬆️ Opportunity
Leading thru great difficulty…
Leaders who must overcome seeming insurmountable obstacles to achieve progress:
• Lead with razor sharp vision.
• Lead with higher standards than comfortable with.
• Lead with high creativity.
• Lead with unrelenting, unwavering daily focus.
We lead with small-minded, restrictive thinking.
We coach with narrow ideas.
We strategize to simply avoid scrutiny & risk.
We limit possibilities because of our limited scope of what is actually possible.
Open up our minds & open up what is possible for our players & teams.
Thriving inside the less than ideal… 📝
Baseball success can be defined by the ability to effectively navigate challenge and chaos - when things don’t go how you would like or how you would expect.
- Coaches who must maximize program growth with the lowest imaginable money + resources.
- Pitchers who must compete when they aren’t feeling their freshest.
- Hitters who have to find a way when the pitch moves in an unpredictable way and they are off balance.
- Players as a whole who must respond in a game where it seems nothing is going their way.
Baseball glory will go to those who don’t need to be optimized. 🛠️
✅ They optimize THEMSELVES against fragility and for respond-ability.
It's a simple fact of life: if you want to do something incredible, something that makes you stand out above the rest, then you have to become comfortable being different—that means being misunderstood, criticized, even hated.
Marcus Aurelius said-
“Do every act of your life as though it were the very last act of your life.”
A good reflection for all of us -> coaches, and players.
Are we fully committing ourselves to our actions today with the conviction & honor that is worthy of being our last act?
Recruiting should be rooted in relationships & integrity… not selfish ambition.
Culture should be founded on standards & accountability… not coercion.
Player development should be based on research & evidence… not blind traditionalism.
Program-building => tangible VALUES.
We’re proud to announce Leo Salas for 1st Team All Conference and Max Wiggins earning 3rd Team All Conference for the Lone Star Conference 2026 season. 🏆
@J_Richardson12 We split our 2 full length cages in half to create 4 stations. We also use our outfield (right next to our cages) to create stations where we hit plyos, mini plyos, mini foam balls, small whiffles, etc.
We do circuits with all kinds of differing hitting activities.
🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Tees are outlawed in our offensive development system as well.
I agree! They aren’t even just a harmless tool to use.
They are potentially poisonous to adaptable athletes as hitters.
🔥🔥🔥
In the month of December I am going to drop 31 (1 for each day) personal opinions about the game of baseball.
Day 1 of 31
The batting tee has ruined more swings than it has fixed. The tee is for younger players, 7 years old or younger.
I took ours out of our program years ago. It is the most overused and most overrated hitting tool in the game of baseball.
Change my mind!
Drawing attention to an athlete’s “mechanics” is poisonous to their ability to perform & develop.
Scientific research has shown this for quite some time.
Making them aware & self-conscious of whether they are pleasing our movement rules is coach-centered, not athlete-centered.
