A Red Flag Warning is in effect Thursday from 5 AM to 9 PM for portions of the Sierra Nevada, including areas of El Dorado, Amador, Northern Alpine, Calaveras, Tuolumne, and Southern Alpine counties above 5,000 feet, including the Highway 50 corridor.

A Fire Weather Watch is also in effect from late tonight through Thursday evening for the Sierra Nevada of El Dorado and Amador counties, including Highway 50.

Stay alert and avoid activities all that could create a spark. If a wildfire starts near you, be ready to evacuate when directed.

Aviation resources are supporting firefighters on the #TimberFire near Big Sur from the air, day and night.

So far, aircraft assigned to the incident have delivered:
✈️ 219,000 gallons of retardant
🚁 68,000 gallons of water

Of that water, approximately 20,000 gallons were dropped at night by crews aided by Night Vision Goggles.

Aerial firefighting is just one element of CAL FIRE’s comprehensive fire suppression response.

They thought the fire was moving away. Minutes later, flames nearly 20 feet high were in their backyard.

A San Diego County couple, ages 74 and 70, had initially been unsure about evacuating as the Thorn Fire burned nearby. When the fire suddenly changed direction and smoke began surrounding their home, they called for help.

CAL FIRE/San Deigo County Fire paramedics raced to evacuate the couple and get them to safety. Thankfully, the home was also saved.

Wildfires can change direction quickly. If you or someone in your household needs extra time or assistance to evacuate, leave early. Don’t wait for conditions to become dangerous.

🌡️ Heat Alert: Friday through Sunday

A prolonged period of dangerous heat is expected across much of California from 10:00 a.m. Friday through 10:00 p.m. Sunday.
High temperatures can increase the risk of heat-related illness and create conditions that make it easier for wildfires to start and spread.

Stay safe by:
☀️ Limiting outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day
💧 Drinking plenty of water, even if you don't feel thirsty
🏠 Spending time in air-conditioned spaces or cooling centers whenever possible
👵 Checking on older adults, children, and neighbors who may be more vulnerable
🚫 Avoiding activities that could spark a wildfire, including parking on dry grass, dragging trailer chains, or improperly disposing of cigarettes

Arson is a crime — and CAL FIRE investigators are working to hold those responsible accountable.

Through July, CAL FIRE law enforcement officers have made 84 arson arrests.

That includes a recent arrest connected to the Dove Fire in Tuolumne County. Following an extensive investigation, CAL FIRE officers identified and arrested a suspect in connection with the fire, which burned approximately 223 acres near downtown Sonora.

Each investigation requires careful evidence collection and coordination with local law enforcement and prosecutors.

Coordinated attack on the Gann Fire

CAL FIRE is conducting a coordinated attack on the Gann Fire, utilizing both air and ground resources to aggressively contain the fire.

As of this morning, more than 2,700 personnel are assigned to the incident.

Assigned resources include:
🚒 247 engines
🚁 12 helicopters
🚜 46 dozers
💧 25 water tenders

Firefighters are working around the clock to slow the fire’s spread, strengthen control lines and protect nearby communities.

Always follow evacuation orders and respect road closures.
