I am honored to have taken over as the 6th Executive Governor of Plateau State, and I am excited to begin my journey of serving and leading this wonderful state. Together with my Deputy Governor, Hon. @JosephinePiyo, we pledge to unite the people of Plateau and steer the state towards steady growth and development.
As enshrined in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, we recognize that peace and security are fundamental to achieving growth and development. We will prioritize security, combat criminal elements and invaders and create an efficient resettlement program for internally displaced persons. Our focus will also be on Agriculture, Education, Mining and Mineral Development, Digital Economy, Youths, Women and Social Development.
We will prioritize fairness, equity, and justice in all our policies and administration, and we will work closely with the legislature and the judiciary.
As we take on the enormous tasks ahead, we look to the founding fathers and past leaders of Plateau for inspiration. We acknowledge the challenges ahead, but we are committed to hitting the ground running and bringing noticeable change to Plateau State.
Let us work together to make Plateau State a better place for all.
Today, I joined the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Tinubu; the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda; the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, His Excellency, Senator George Akume; the leader of the APC in North-Central Nigeria; and my brother Governors at the historic gathering where the North-Central Geopolitical Zone formally endorsed His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for re-election in 2027.
The momentous occasion brought together an impressive assembly of party leaders, critical stakeholders, and faithful members of the APC from the six states of the North-Central Zone and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
Their convergence was a powerful demonstration of political solidarity, shared conviction, and a collective resolve to sustain the President’s leadership and vision for our great nation.
The endorsement represents a resounding statement of confidence in President Tinubu’s leadership and the Renewed Hope Agenda, while reaffirming the North-Central Zone’s commitment to national unity, continuity, and the pursuit of a stronger, more prosperous Nigeria.
It was, indeed, a defining moment of unity and collective purpose, as the North-Central reaffirmed its readiness to stand firmly with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the nation looks towards the 2027 general elections.
STRENGTHENING OUR TRADITIONAL INSTITUTIONS, PROMOTING UNITY AND ADVANCING DEVELOPMENT ACROSS PLATEAU STATE
On Wednesday, October 7, 2026, I had the honour of installing His Royal Highness, Miskagam Jerome Goewam Leklat II, as the new Long Pan of Pan Chiefdom and presenting him with the Staff of Office at the Ba’ap Mini Stadium in Qua’an-Pan Local Government Area.
This historic occasion represents more than the installation of a traditional ruler. It marks the restoration of a cherished institution, the preservation of our cultural heritage and the reaffirmation of the common identity that has united the people of Pan for generations.
Since the inception of our administration, we have remained committed to restoring, strengthening and repositioning traditional institutions across Plateau State. We recognise their invaluable contributions to governance, peacebuilding, cultural preservation and community development.
I commend the people of Pan Chiefdom, the traditional council and the royal family for demonstrating maturity, unity and respect for due process throughout the transition following the passing of the late Long Pan, His Royal Highness, Miskagam Emmanuel Dabang, on May 8, 2025.
In my address to the new Long Pan, I urged him to embrace his responsibilities with wisdom, humility, fairness and courage. Leadership must always be about service, inclusion and the collective well-being of the people.
I reminded His Royal Highness that his reign must be defined by the ability to unite rather than divide, to heal rather than reopen old wounds, and to build bridges wherever differences exist.
I also reiterated the important role of our traditional rulers in strengthening community relations, providing credible local intelligence and working closely with security agencies. The security of our communities remains a collective responsibility, and we must continue to work together to protect lives and property across Plateau State.
Beyond strengthening our traditional institutions, our administration remains committed to addressing the challenges affecting our communities, including drug abuse, insecurity and the indiscriminate leasing of ancestral lands for mining activities.
We are developing measures to ensure that mineral resources are responsibly managed and that host communities, legitimate landowners and all relevant levels of government derive appropriate benefits while safeguarding our environment.
I also used the occasion to reaffirm our commitment to accelerating infrastructure development across the Southern Senatorial Zone.
We are determined to complete the 61-kilometre Dokan Tofa–Ba’ap–Kurgwi and Jibam–Dokan Kasuwa Roads and improve access to reliable electricity across the Southern Zone.
These investments are essential to unlocking the economic potential of our communities, stimulating commerce, supporting businesses, creating opportunities and improving the standard of living of our people.
As part of our continued commitment to development, I also commissioned the remodelled Long Pan’s Palace and the newly constructed Snakebite Treatment Centre in Doemak, Qua’an-Pan Local Government Area.
These projects reflect our determination to strengthen traditional institutions while expanding access to essential services that directly improve the lives of our people.
I congratulate His Royal Highness, Miskagam Jerome Goewam Leklat II, on his ascension to the revered throne of Long Pan. I trust that his reign will usher in a new chapter of peace, justice, unity and sustainable development for the people.
Our vision remains clear: to build a peaceful, united and prosperous Plateau State where every community is empowered, every citizen is valued and development reaches every corner of our State.
Together, we will continue to strengthen the institutions that preserve our heritage, build the infrastructure that connects our communities and create opportunities that secure a better future for generations to come.
BUILDING ROADS THAT CONNECT OUR PEOPLE AND STRENGTHEN OUR ECONOMY
Today, I flagged off the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the 41-kilometre Bisichi–Fan–Mangu Halle Road, an important project that reflects our commitment to building durable infrastructure and improving connectivity across Plateau State.
This road was originally awarded in December 2012 as a surface-dressed road on a laterite base. However, the realities of today, including increased traffic and the deteriorating condition of the existing infrastructure, demand a more sustainable solution. We have therefore upgraded the project to a full asphalt road designed to serve our people for years to come.
For us, this is about more than constructing a road. It is about connecting communities, reducing travel time, improving road safety and making it easier for our people to access markets, schools, healthcare facilities and other essential services.
When completed, the Bisichi–Fan–Mangu Halle Road will also complement other strategic projects we are undertaking, including the Foron–Bakin Kogi–Kadunu–Gindiri Road, as we work towards strengthening connectivity across the three Senatorial Districts of Plateau State.
I am also pleased that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has granted full approval for the Mararaban Jama’a–Mangu–Kanke–Langtang–Shendam–Ibi Road. I deeply appreciate Mr President for his support, goodwill and continued partnership with the Government and people of Plateau State.
Our collaboration with the Federal Government continues to open opportunities for infrastructure development, economic growth and improved livelihoods for our people.
I equally appreciate the people of Fan and Barkin-Ladi for their cooperation and willingness to support development within their communities. We will continue to pursue initiatives that translate directly into better livelihoods and stronger local economies.
Beyond road infrastructure, we are exploring modern greenhouse agricultural systems that can produce higher yields with less land. This forms part of our broader effort to improve agricultural productivity, empower rural communities and create sustainable economic opportunities across Plateau State.
Our commitment remains clear: we will build infrastructure that lasts, connects our communities and supports the long-term economic transformation of Plateau State.
Every road we rebuild must ultimately mean something to the Plateau citizen: easier movement, safer journeys, better access to opportunities and stronger communities.
Together, we are building a more connected, productive and prosperous Plateau.
Today, I had the privilege of an audience with the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, where I briefed him extensively on matters of critical importance to Plateau State, particularly the prevailing security situation and the concerted efforts of our administration to consolidate peace, security and stability across the State.
Mr. President received the briefing with keen attention and demonstrated his continued commitment to the peace, security and wellbeing of the people of Plateau State. We are encouraged by his response and remain hopeful that a number of critical interventions will be fast-tracked, including the deployment of the security cameras graciously donated to Plateau State during his last visit.
This strategic intervention will further strengthen our security architecture, complement the Plateau Security and Information Centre, and significantly enhance our capacity for intelligence gathering, surveillance, early warning and rapid response.
I also briefed Mr. President on the commencement of the distribution of the ₦1 billion intervention generously donated by the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to victims of violent attacks in Plateau State, alongside the additional ₦500 million committed by the Plateau State Government.
These interventions reflect a shared commitment to standing with families who have endured the pain and consequences of violence. Beyond immediate relief, our objective is to restore livelihoods, rebuild dignity and give affected households the means and confidence to begin again.
Furthermore, I briefed Mr. President on the determination of the Plateau State Government to commence the rebuilding of communities devastated by the attacks, in preparation for the safe, orderly and dignified return of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) to their ancestral homes.
During the briefing, Mr. President also expressed profound satisfaction with the transformative interventions of the Plateau State Government, particularly in the transportation sector, where the introduction of the Metro Bus service and the revitalisation of the rail service have provided much-needed relief to citizens by reducing the burden and cost of transportation and enhancing mobility across the State.
He was equally pleased with the administration’s strategic interventions in the education and health sectors, recognising these investments as critical to expanding opportunities, strengthening human capital, improving access to quality healthcare and ultimately enhancing the wellbeing and prosperity of the people of Plateau State.
The task before us is clear: to restore hope where it has been diminished, rebuild where there has been destruction, strengthen peace where there has been conflict, and create an environment in which every citizen can live, work and prosper with dignity.
Together, we will continue to build a Plateau defined by peace, security, unity, resilience and shared prosperity,a Plateau that gives every citizen renewed confidence in the future.
PLATEAU IS OPEN FOR INVESTMENT AND STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS
I was delighted to receive the European Union Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, His Excellency Gautier Mignot, during his visit to Plateau State.
Our engagement provided an important opportunity to reaffirm my administration’s commitment to building stronger international partnerships anchored on mutual benefit, investment, innovation and sustainable development.
Plateau State is richly endowed with enormous opportunities, particularly in agriculture, livestock and dairy production, renewable energy, education and tourism. As we continue to reposition our economy, we are determined to transform these comparative advantages into productive investments that create jobs, strengthen local industries and improve the livelihoods of our people.
Agriculture remains central to this vision. From our indigenous crops, including acha, to our livestock and dairy value chains, Plateau possesses significant potential for increased production, processing and access to both domestic and international markets. We are equally committed to modernising livestock management by leveraging technology, expertise and strategic partnerships.
In the energy sector, we appreciate the European Union’s collaboration in exploring sustainable energy solutions for health institutions across the State. We also look forward to the actualisation of the proposed 5-megawatt hydropower project at Assop Falls, which will further support our efforts to expand access to reliable and sustainable energy.
I therefore invite our European partners and the wider international investment community to look beyond Nigeria’s traditional commercial centres and explore the opportunities that abound on the Plateau.
Our administration will continue to create an enabling environment for credible investors and partnerships that bring technology, capital and expertise while delivering lasting value to our people.
Plateau is open to the world, and we are ready to build partnerships that will translate our abundant potential into shared prosperity.
66 YEARS OF NIGERIA: RENEWING OUR FAITH IN THE NIGERIAN PROJECT
As we commemorate Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary, I join the people of Plateau State and Nigerians everywhere in reflecting on our journey as a nation and renewing our faith in the promise of a peaceful, united and prosperous Nigeria.
Our history reminds us that nation-building is a responsibility passed from one generation to another. Despite the challenges before us, our strength remains in our collective determination to rise above our differences and build a country where every Nigerian has a sense of belonging and the opportunity to thrive.
On the Plateau, our administration remains committed to peace, security, justice and inclusive development. I deeply appreciate the resilience, patience and patriotism of our people as we continue working together towards the Plateau of our dreams.
In the spirit of this anniversary, and following due consultation with the State Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy, I have granted absolute pardon to 130 inmates, while the death sentences of four inmates have been commuted to life imprisonment.
As we celebrate 66 years of independence, may we honour the sacrifices of our heroes past by playing our part in building a stronger nation for generations to come.
Happy Independence Day, Nigeria.
God bless Plateau State.
God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

BUILDING A SECURE, UNITED AND PROSPEROUS PLATEAU
The challenges before us as a people do not discriminate by religion, ethnicity or community. Poverty affects us all. Insecurity threatens us all. Underdevelopment limits us all. Therefore, our response must be collective.
During my engagement with the Knights and Ladies of St. Mulumba (KSM), Jos Metropolitan Council, I reaffirmed my administration’s commitment to building a Plateau where competence, fairness and the collective interest of our people remain at the heart of governance.
Our focus is to create an economy that gives our people genuine opportunities to prosper. We are investing deliberately in agriculture, livestock development, infrastructure and skills because we believe Plateau has everything it takes to become a major centre of productivity and enterprise.
Our livestock development agenda is particularly important. Plateau has enormous potential to become one of Nigeria’s leading livestock-producing states. With modern ranching, improved livestock management and the development of an abattoir capable of processing about 500 cattle daily, we can create jobs for our young people, expand opportunities for veterinary and livestock professionals, and build a stronger agricultural value chain.
As we pursue these opportunities, I want to reassure our people that this administration will protect their ancestral lands, rights and interests. We will not take land from indigenous communities and hand it over to strangers under the guise of ranching or development.
We are also working towards transforming the Jos Airport into an international airport, opening Plateau to greater trade and creating opportunities for our farmers and businesses to export agricultural produce and other goods to wider markets.
But economic prosperity cannot thrive without security. That is why we remain determined to secure our borders, protect our communities and create the conditions necessary for our people to return to their farms, businesses and livelihoods.
We have concluded strategic plans to begin the process of returning displaced persons to their ancestral communities after the farming season. Their return must, however, be safe, dignified and sustainable, with adequate security arrangements firmly in place.
Our young people and women must see themselves as central to this vision. Plateau is blessed with resilient, hardworking and enterprising people. With the right opportunities and enabling environment, there is no limit to what we can achieve together.
As we move forward, we must refuse to allow religion, ethnicity or political differences to divide us. Our diversity must become a source of strength.
Together, we will defeat poverty.
Together, we will confront insecurity.
Together, we will build a productive, peaceful and prosperous Plateau.
Our children are the future of Plateau State, and the quality of education we provide today will determine the strength of the Plateau we build tomorrow.
At the SUBEB Headquarters in Jos, I flagged off the distribution of vehicles, teaching and learning materials, computers and tablets, alongside a two-day capacity-building workshop for teachers and school leaders.
For our administration, this goes beyond the distribution of materials. It reflects our deliberate commitment to repositioning basic education as the foundation of our collective future.
Since assuming office, we have prioritised investments in school infrastructure, instructional materials, teacher development and stronger institutional systems. We have cleared outstanding UBEC counterpart fund obligations for 2022–2023, bringing Plateau State up to date, while preparations are underway for the 2026 counterpart contribution. Together, these investments will amount to over ₦10 billion in basic education.
Over the last three years, we have also renovated more than 1,200 classrooms across the 17 Local Government Areas of Plateau State.
Through the HOPE Programme, we are working to bridge the digital divide by providing computers and tablets, while ensuring that our teachers receive the training, learning content and support required to make technology a meaningful part of the classroom experience.
We are equally strengthening SUBEB’s operational capacity, improving supervision and data systems, deepening community engagement and ensuring that resources get to the classrooms and communities where they are needed most.
Our vision is clear: a stronger education system is the foundation for a stronger Plateau.
This flag-off represents both a promise kept and a promise renewed. We will continue to invest, reform and take the necessary steps to build an education system where every Plateau child, regardless of location or background, has access to quality, relevant and safe education.
The future of Plateau begins with the children we educate today.
HAJJ SPONSORSHIP IS AN INVESTMENT IN PEACE AND RELIGIOUS HARMONY
Today, I received the report of the 2026 Hajj operation at the New Government House, Rayfield, Jos.
For our administration, supporting Muslim pilgrims to undertake the Hajj is not political patronage; it is an investment in peace, religious harmony and inclusive governance.
Pilgrimage should go beyond the journey to the Holy Land. It should deepen our fear of God, strengthen our character and remind us that, regardless of faith or political affiliation, we are all equal before God.
For too long, the Muslim-Christian divide has shaped conversations on the Plateau, and it has not helped us. We must focus instead on what unites us and recognise that our future is shared.
This commitment to inclusion informed my decision to appoint Rt. Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase as Amirul Hajj despite our different political affiliations. The interest of Plateau State must always rise above partisan considerations, and I commend him for justifying the confidence reposed in him.
I also commend the Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, the Ulamas and other stakeholders for the successful 2026 Hajj operation and the improvements made to ensure transparency and accountability.
Our vision remains a peaceful, united and prosperous Plateau where no citizen is excluded because of religion, ethnicity or political affiliation.
We will continue to build bridges, strengthen mutual respect and work together for the Plateau we all desire.
SECURING PLATEAU, STRENGTHENING OUR FUTURE
Yesterday, I convened a meeting of the Plateau State Security Council at the New Government House, Little Rayfield, Jos, as part of our continuous efforts to review the security situation across our State and strengthen measures to protect our people, communities and livelihoods.
The meeting brought together the Deputy Governor, heads of security and law enforcement agencies, the Gbong Gwom Jos, Da. Jacob Gyang Buba, and other senior government officials.
Our deliberations focused extensively on recent security incidents, emerging threats, intelligence gathering and sharing, preventive operations, inter-agency collaboration, and the measures required to safeguard lives, property and economic activities across Plateau State.
The recent incident in Mangu was deeply painful and unacceptable. While security personnel had been deployed, the fact that lives were still affected reinforces the need to constantly reassess our strategies, identify gaps and ensure that such incidents are prevented from recurring.
I have received briefings on the arrests already made in connection with some of the attacks recorded in the State, as well as the ongoing investigations and efforts to apprehend other suspects. Our security agencies are working collaboratively with relevant authorities at the national level and deploying available technology and intelligence to ensure that those responsible are identified and brought to justice.
I have given our security agencies clear directives: we must remain proactive, vigilant and uncompromising in the protection of lives and property.
Our approach cannot be limited to responding after attacks have occurred. We must strengthen intelligence-led and preventive security measures that enable us to identify threats early and neutralise them before they materialise.
As we approach the ember months and political activities gradually intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, we will continue to strengthen security across Plateau State. We will not allow criminal elements or those determined to disrupt our peace to undermine the progress we have collectively made.
I also call on every Plateau citizen to remain a partner in securing our State. Timely and credible information about suspicious persons, movements or activities can make the difference between preventing an attack and responding to one. Security remains a shared responsibility, and our communities are indispensable partners in this effort.
Plateau is the Home of Peace and Tourism, and we remain determined to preserve that identity.
Beyond protecting lives and property, peace and security are fundamental to the economic future we are building. Our farmers must be able to cultivate their lands without fear. Businesses must operate confidently. Investors must see Plateau as a safe destination for investment, and our tourism sector must continue to thrive.
My administration remains resolute in building a Plateau where our people can live peacefully, work productively and invest confidently.
We will continue to work with our security agencies, traditional institutions, community leaders and citizens to consolidate the peace we have achieved and build a safer, stronger and more prosperous Plateau State.
The Time is Now.

CELEBRATES A MOTHER, HER EXCELLENCY VICTORIA GOWON AT 80
On this remarkable and momentous occasion of your 80th birthday, I extend my warmest felicitations and heartfelt best wishes to our beloved mother, Her Excellency, Victoria Gowon, former First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. At this significant milestone, we celebrate a life defined by grace, compassion, faith, resilience, humility, and selfless service to humanity.
Your years as First Lady during the administration of our beloved father, the former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, GCFR (Rtd), were marked by compassion, dignity, and a profound commitment to the wellbeing of families and the unity of our dear nation. As a trained nurse, you distinguished yourself through your care for the sick and vulnerable, bringing comfort to those in distress and hope to the hopeless.
At a critical period in Nigeria’s history, your motherly support and advocacy for peace, reconciliation, national healing, and peaceful coexistence made a meaningful contribution to the pursuit of a united and peaceful nation.

Happy 80th Birthday, our beloved mother!

I VISITED BIN MPER COMMUNITY, MANGU, TO STAND WITH OUR PEOPLE FOLLOWING THE DEADLY ATTACK
Today, I visited Bin Mper Community in Kombun District of Mangu Local Government Area to personally commiserate with our people following the tragic attack of Tuesday, August 18, 2026, which claimed precious lives and left others injured.
I met with members of the community, particularly the women and families who are grieving. I share deeply in their pain. What happened in Bin Mper was barbaric, senseless and unacceptable.
This is not an attack on this community alone; it is an attack on me and on our collective determination to secure Plateau State.
I assured our people that we will continue to strengthen our security architecture and adopt additional measures to protect vulnerable communities. We recently reviewed our security strategies in collaboration with the General Officer Commanding 3 Division, Nigerian Army, and other security agencies, and this incident further reinforces the urgency of our task.
The police have informed us that some persons have been arrested. We will follow this matter to its logical conclusion and continue to demand accountability.
I also gave the people of Bin Mper my firm assurance: we will do everything within our powers to ensure that our people remain on their ancestral land. Nobody will take over their land.
My heart goes out to every family that lost a loved one. I pray that God grants them comfort and gives those who were injured a speedy recovery. Our government will continue to stand with the community through this difficult period.
I commend the courage and resilience of our young people who continue to support efforts to safeguard their communities. I urge them to remain peaceful, vigilant and law-abiding, and to continue working closely with constituted authorities.
Before visiting the community, I received a security briefing from the General Officer Commanding 3 Division, Nigerian Army. I reiterated the need for more proactive, intelligence-driven and coordinated security operations capable of preventing attacks before they occur.
I also visited the Mishkagham Mwaghavul, His Royal Highness, Da. John Putmang Hirse, to sympathise with him, the bereaved families and the entire Mwaghavul Nation.
I assured His Royal Highness and our people that I will not let them down. We remain resolute in our determination to defeat banditry, terrorism and every form of criminality threatening the peace and security of Plateau State.
Our strength at this difficult moment must be found in our unity. Communities, traditional institutions, government and security agencies must continue to work together. I have confidence in the professionalism and commitment of our security agencies, and my administration will continue to provide the necessary cooperation to strengthen security across the state.
The Mwaghavul people have demonstrated remarkable resilience in the face of this tragedy. Their commitment to peace and their determination to remain on their ancestral land must be protected.
Plateau belongs to its people. We will defend our communities, preserve our heritage and protect the ancestral lands handed down to us.
We will not surrender Plateau to fear.
We will not allow criminals to determine where our people can live.
And we will not relent until every Plateau citizen can live, work and raise their family in safety and peace.
May God comfort the bereaved families, heal the injured and restore lasting peace to our dear Plateau State.
It is with great delight and profound gratitude to Almighty God that I warmly congratulate my dear brother, the National Chairman of our party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda Goshwe, on the joyous occasion of his 58th birthday.
This significant milestone provides an opportunity to celebrate a distinguished scholar, visionary leader, accomplished administrator, and patriotic Nigerian whose life has been defined by integrity, excellence, humility, and an unwavering commitment to the service of God and humanity.
You have demonstrated exceptional leadership, dedication to nation-building, and a deep passion for the advancement of our democracy. Your contributions to public service, youth empowerment, and national development have earned you the admiration and respect of people across political, religious, and ethnic divides.
As you mark this special day, I join your family, friends, associates, and countless well-wishers in thanking Almighty God for His abundant grace, protection, and blessings upon your life. It is my prayer that God grants you good health, wisdom, strength, and many more fruitful years of purposeful service as you continue to provide visionary leadership for the growth of our great party and the progress of Nigeria.
Happy 58th Birthday, my dear brother!
WE ARE RESTORING PLATEAU’S LEGACY ASSETS TO POSITION OUR STATE FOR GLOBAL SPORTS, TOURISM AND INVESTMENT
I inspected the ongoing remodelling of the Rwang Pam Township Stadium, Plateau Hotel, and Hill Station Hotel in Jos to assess the progress of work and reaffirm our administration’s commitment to restoring Plateau State’s legacy assets while building a stronger economy driven by sports, tourism, hospitality, and private investment.
At the Rwang Pam Township Stadium, I was encouraged by the quality of work being carried out and commended the contractors for the progress recorded so far. However, I also directed that the pace of work be accelerated to ensure the project is completed ahead of the forthcoming football season.
Our vision is to deliver a world-class sporting facility that meets international standards, promotes grassroots sports development, nurtures young talents, and positions Plateau State to host both national and international sporting events.
Quality remains non-negotiable, but speed is equally important. I have directed the contractors to deploy more personnel, especially on the pitch, and take full advantage of the August break to minimise weather-related delays. By the grace of God, before the football season begins in earnest, the pitch should be ready so that work can concentrate on the remaining components of the project.
The revival of our sporting infrastructure is central to our broader agenda of restoring Plateau’s reputation as a leading destination for sports excellence and sports tourism.
I also inspected the ongoing remodelling of the Plateau Hotel and the iconic Hill Station Hotel, where I expressed satisfaction with the remarkable progress being made despite the initial challenges encountered at the commencement of the projects.
I commend our investors and development partners for their commitment and resilience. These projects demonstrate that well-structured Public-Private Partnerships can successfully deliver critical infrastructure and accelerate development.
One of the promises we made upon assuming office was to recover and restore Plateau State’s legacy assets. The Hill Station Hotel holds a special place in the history of our state and our nation. For nearly eight years, this iconic facility remained closed, but today, it is being brought back to life.
I am delighted that our partners have assured us that the first phase of both the Hill Station Hotel and Plateau Hotel projects will be delivered by October 1, 2026. That milestone will represent a significant step in repositioning Plateau as Nigeria’s premier destination for tourism, conferences, business, and leisure.
No tourism economy can flourish without modern hospitality infrastructure. These investments will not only revive our tourism industry but also stimulate economic activities, create jobs, attract local and international investors, and boost confidence in Plateau State as an investment destination.
The visible transformation already taking place has generated excitement among our people. Many citizens have reached out after seeing the new perimeter fencing and ongoing construction, expressing renewed hope that these historic landmarks will soon regain their former glory.
The progress on these projects sends a clear message to investors across Nigeria and beyond: Plateau State is open for business. We have deliberately created an enabling environment where private investments can thrive, and we remain committed to building a resilient economy anchored on strategic partnerships, sustainable development, and improved ease of doing business.
While we continue to invest in critical infrastructure, we remain equally committed to addressing our security challenges through close collaboration with security agencies and community stakeholders. I am confident in the resilience of the Plateau people, and I have no doubt that together we will build a safer, stronger, and more prosperous Plateau State .
I had the honour of meeting with the Honourable Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, to advance a strategic partnership between the Federal Government and Plateau State aimed at accelerating trade, industrial development, and enterprise growth under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
Our engagement focused on strengthening collaboration to enhance subnational competitiveness, expand trade opportunities, and promote enterprise development through targeted policies and strategic investments.
We also explored practical measures to leverage Plateau State's abundant agricultural, mineral, and human resources to drive value addition, foster innovation, empower local producers and businesses, and position the State to maximise the immense opportunities presented by the African Continental Free Trade Area.
This partnership reflects our commitment to building a resilient, competitive, and export-driven economy that creates jobs, attracts investment, and delivers sustainable prosperity for the people of Plateau State.
Today, I had the honour of attending the 34th Engineering Assembly of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), where engineering professionals from across the country gathered to deliberate on strengthening professional standards and advancing the engineering profession to meet the aspirations of our nation.
I spoke on behalf of my brother Governors at the Assembly, which was held at the Velodrome, Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, under the theme: "Advancing Public Safety in Nigeria through Strategic Engineering Regulation, Enforcement, and a Tiered Sanctioning Regime."
In my remarks, I urged engineers to remain steadfast in upholding the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, accountability, and patriotism. I emphasized that governments at the subnational level depend greatly on the expertise, guidance, and ethical conduct of engineering professionals in delivering durable infrastructure and sustainable development for our people.
Engineering remains one of the most critical professions driving national growth and improving the quality of life of citizens. It is, therefore, imperative that the profession continues to uphold excellence while embracing innovation and promoting indigenous capacity to accelerate Nigeria's development.
I commended members of the engineering profession for their unwavering commitment to excellence and for championing local content in the execution of critical infrastructure projects across the country. The wealth of knowledge, competence, and experience represented at the Assembly reflects the immense contribution of Nigerian engineers to nation-building.
The Assembly featured goodwill messages and keynote addresses by several distinguished personalities, including the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, represented by the Honourable Minister of Works, Engr. Sen. David Nweze Umahi; the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda; the Founder, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote; and the President of COREN, Engr. Prof. Sadiq Zubair Abubakar, alongside other eminent leaders and stakeholders in the engineering sector.
I congratulate COREN on the successful hosting of the 34th Engineering Assembly and reaffirm my confidence that the resolutions reached at the conference will further strengthen engineering practice, enhance public safety, and contribute meaningfully to Nigeria's sustainable development.
MADO WATER PROJECT: A NEW DAWN FOR TUDUN WADA
I had the privilege of commissioning the Mado–Tudun Wada Mini Solar-Powered Water Scheme in Tudun Wada, Jos North Local Government Area, a project that brings hope and relief to a community that has endured decades of water scarcity.
For far too long, families in Mado and surrounding communities, especially women and children, have had to travel long distances in search of water, often relying on unsafe sources. Their resilience has been remarkable, but no community should have to live without access to something as fundamental as clean water.
Seeing the joy on the faces of our mothers today reminded me why we serve. When the cries of the people reached us, we knew we had a responsibility to act.
This project is only the first phase. We are committed to expanding the water scheme to reach more parts of Tudun Wada and other communities in Jos North. As the rains subside, work on our ongoing road projects in the area will also gather greater momentum.
Access to safe water is not a privilege; it is a basic necessity that restores dignity, protects public health, and creates opportunities for education, farming, business, and economic growth.
I remain committed to a people-centred approach to governance, ensuring that every community, regardless of its size or location, enjoys the dividends of democracy. Together, we will continue building a Plateau where no one is left behind.
To the glory of God, today was another remarkable milestone in our commitment to transforming Plateau State through strategic investments in agriculture, water supply, healthcare and community development.
In Mangu Local Government Area, I commissioned the long-awaited Potato Value Chain Project, a state-of-the-art Tissue Culture Laboratory, and flagged off the distribution of improved Plateau potato seedlings and modern agricultural inputs.
This landmark investment will transform Plateau State from a producer of raw potatoes into Nigeria's leading hub for potato processing and value addition. The project features a modern training centre and potato processing facility that will revolutionise seed production, promote mechanised farming, increase farmers' incomes, create jobs, and position Plateau as a major player in Africa's potato industry.
We also flagged off the distribution of the 2026 subsidised fertiliser in Jos South Local Government Area as part of our determination to strengthen agricultural production, enhance food security, and improve the livelihoods of farmers across the state.
Agriculture remains the backbone of Plateau's economy. I encouraged our farmers not to be discouraged by the current challenges, assuring them that my administration is working tirelessly every day to address these difficulties. No force will prevent Plateau State from maintaining and expanding its position as the food basket of the nation. We have already commenced the distribution of the fertilizer and will continue to provide essential farm inputs to ensure bumper harvests across the state.
In Jos North Local Government Area, I commissioned the Mado–Tudun Wada Water Plant Project, a life-changing intervention designed to bring an end to the perennial water scarcity that has affected the community for many years. It was deeply inspiring to receive such a warm welcome from the women, students and residents whose joy reflected the impact this project will have on their daily lives. I also directed the contractor handling the adjoining road project to expedite work while maintaining the highest standards of quality.
At Gangare Community, Jos North, I commissioned the Gangare Development Project, comprising the Gangare Primary Health Care Centre and the GSS Gangare Hall, executed by the Presidential Implementation Committee on Technology Transfer (PICTT). These critical facilities will improve access to healthcare, support education and strengthen community development.
Seeing the smiles on the faces of farmers, women, students and community members reinforces our resolve to continue delivering projects that directly improve the lives of our people. Our administration remains firmly committed to people-centred governance, sustainable development and building a more prosperous Plateau State for all.
The Time is Now.
Today, I had the privilege of speaking on the Arise TV Town Hall Programme with the theme, "Building a National Consensus for State Police and National Security," where I presented Plateau State's perspective on the decades-long security challenges confronting our people and why the establishment of State Police has become an urgent national imperative.
When I assumed office, Plateau State was grappling with numerous security challenges. One of the first decisive steps we took was to reactivate Operation Rainbow, the state-owned security outfit established with the approval of former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to provide critical intelligence support to conventional security agencies. Beyond that, we have invested in technology-driven surveillance and continue to strengthen and optimize our security architecture to improve intelligence gathering, rapid response, and public safety.
I commend His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his bold leadership in advancing the long-awaited national conversation on State Police and for moving the discussion beyond rhetoric toward concrete action. I firmly believe that the benefits of State Police far outweigh the concerns that have been raised. While every reform comes with challenges, potential abuses can be addressed through robust legal safeguards, institutional checks, accountability mechanisms, and effective oversight.
One critical issue that deserves greater national attention is the question of sustainable funding. If we establish a reliable funding framework for State Police, we will significantly strengthen our collective capacity to confront insecurity across the country.
As I emphasized during the discussion, if we fail to act now, we will ultimately pay a much higher price in the future. This is a defining moment for our nation. We must seize this opportunity to build a security system that reflects our realities, protects our citizens, and secures the future of Nigeria.
