it is kinda crazy to me just how many people think ds has better or a similar level of animation to jjk
ofc ds is incredibly well animated, but i thought it would be more obvious to people that its more limited in terms of movement than something like jjk
I truly do wonder if people are aware just how 'outside of the norm' the quality of JJK is lol
Just speaking in generalities, and not at any particular person, the perception of anime production quality is still skewed to an ungodly extent.
The script for JJK Season 3 was labeled as Episodes 59 and 60. However, Gosyozono decided that if it were split into two full episodes, there would be too many face-to-face dialogue scenes, making it feel dragged out. So it was planned to be done in about 1.5 episodes instead.
I never do this, and I regret to inform I had to pay eLon the value of a coffee to post this, but I really like gosso as a director, and having been following him since his first outing as ED in s1 ep 8, I feel like I should talk about the work he just delivered, especially now that he has gone out to get milk, you know...
So here goes nothing.

This is Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3: The Culling Game Part 1 - A Shitty & Very Long Thread 🤓
(Im sorry in advance)
Want to start by highlighting the excellent work done by new character designers Yousuke Yajima and Hiromi Niwa cus they took what were already pretty decent designs and made them, imo, into something even greater and with much more character to them.
It was a pleasure seeing the drawing power on display by all 5 main CADs during the season, we were truly blessed.
📌 Episode 1
ED/SB: Shota Goshozono
ED cooperation: Nana Ueda
Special personal highlight/note: Naoya's memed ass stinks.
Sensational start to the season, much has been said already about these first 2 eps, given their gimmicky release in theaters back in november, so I will keep it short. This is, imo, the best aesthetic the season presented us, which isnt suprising or unexpected given the premiere nature that a first episide always benefits from. The colour scripts were fully realized the bold compositions nailed and the comp never failed us. I can understand some complaints about the action boards and Mitani's quirky animation, but to me it was fine and actually a great showing of draftsmanship by the aforementioned animator, and ofc tokumaru (special shoutout to Okuda's meme generating animation as well).
The episode presented us to Naoya, a cocky fucker that serves as the perfect bad guy (not even antagonist) cus you cant but hate his guts, and also put us in the shoes of a post "acceptance stage" Yuji, where he lets his self destructive nature take hold of him in hopes of making "his" actions and the events of the Shibuya Incident make more sense.
This is a special episode even now, and one I feel like people really underapreciate.
📌 Episode 2
ED: Yousuke Takata
SB: Shouta Goshozono
Special personal highlight/note: Pls let me hit Terui.
Yousuke Takata's first display of masterfull direction in this season, it displays my favourite recent work from K1ro (before the bluring incident) and the incredible JJK debut of Yakumo Crack.
Part A of this episode is a continuation of the action spectacle of the last ep, with some really cool boards and presentation. The colour scripts this season are fully realize, for the most part, and they are engrained much more into the production of the eps than before, and thats something we can feel. Shoutout to the way Naoya's technique was conveyed and how it contrasts to Naobito's version back in s2. What really stayed with me following the release of this ep was the yuta and yuji moment which was not only very well boarded and masterfully directed, with some excellent bits of character acting, but had a lot of its secret sauce in the soundtrack. I ABSOLUTELY loved Terui's work in s2 but, my god, the tracks we have had the privilege of listening to, up to this point, are so fucking special, and they elevated this sequence so much (I will be saying this a lot btw).
Overall its a very good continuation to the excellent premiere, and one that would prepare us for future Takata cooking sessions.
JJK 3x12 (final ep 💔)
Great episode
One of the best JJK action episodes ever, and definitely my favorite this season
Part A was definitely storyboarded by Gosso (a bit more than 8:30 minutes) and the rest is Miso’s
I really like Part A. It’s different from the manga, but it’s so creative I love it, some of the best boards Gosso did this season
Some of the CG use in Part A was really cool
The sudden change in Ryu’s design from Part A to Part B was a bit funny ngl, but it’s not that big of a deal
The triple domain was so cool. It’s basically 1:1, but not exactly like the 120% panel, the transition to it was insane
Playing the OP song before the final clash with Yuta was so hype. Then it goes straight into h2h while the OP is playing, with a montage of desserts being eaten (which goes back to what Ryu said at the beginning) That was really cool
The only thing I didn’t like is the art direction. Idk what happened to Junichi Higashi this season, but I just don’t like the BGs.
Also it’s not a secret this episode needed a bit more polishing, but even with that messy list, the final product is still amazing
