@SHAQ , @CanineCellMates loves Krispy Kreme! The handlers in this program were thrilled to have KK Donuts/KK coffee at a recent Basic Computer Literacy class, Fulton County Jail! Know what they would love even more? Hearing from you in person! #jaildogsprogram#reducerecidivism
@dianalimongi Jail is usually for short-term nonserious offenses or for being held before your trial. Prison is usually for a Felony-level conviction and a longer sentence if usually longer than 1 year. Most people in jail are there for a short period of time, where prison is a longer term.
Congrats to the 2018 Class of @FultonCountyDA Jr. Deputies. @FGTV enjoyed our time with you. Great group of Fulton Middle School and rising 9th Graders. #FultonJustice
Conditions in jail are often even worse than prison, because the people held there are thought to be doing "short stays." But even short jail stays are often tragic. #MaternalJustice

#MaternalJustice Metro-Jail in Lexington, KY when built in the 1980s was constructed without visiting rooms, the only way to conduct a visit is by video, an antiquated closed circuit TV is used. Fathers are Saturdays, Mothers on Sundays. Volunteers tell me dads get more visits
Excited to join @cut_50 and @MomsRising today for the #MaternalJustice tweetchat!
Only 4% of the world’s female population lives in the U.S., but the U.S. accounts for over 30% of the world’s incarcerated women.

Happy freedom day, Larry! Larry Johnson spent 18 years in prison for a crime he did not commit. He was convicted of charges stemming from a rape that occurred in Missouri in January 1984 & sentenced to life in prison. He was exonerated 16 years ago today. https://t.co/jX7jnNioSF
@MomsRising many of the risk factors children of incarcerated parents experience may be
related to parental substance abuse, mental health, inadequate education; parental incarceration increases the risk of children living in poverty or
experiencing household instability #MaternalJustice
A5.3: Women often get caught up in the justice system while trying to cope with mental illness, poverty, unemployment, trauma, or addiction. But incarceration solves NONE of those problems - and exascerbates most of them.

@PrisonReformMvt "If rehabilitation is the goal of incarceration — and it should be — then prisoners shouldn’t be treated like caged animals. Unless, of course, you want prisoners to act like animals when they get out; and most prisoners will eventually get out." AMEN!
#MaternalJustice Many of these babies are immediately taken from the mother because only a small percentage of facilities in the US have nurseries. Hopefully a family member or friend is able to assume temporary custody if not the baby is turned over to foster care.
@MomsRising Parental incarceration is now recognized as an “adverse childhood experience” - it is distinguished from other adverse childhood experiences by the unique combination of trauma, shame, and stigma #MaternalJustice
