#8 Know where your local public shelters or warming centers are located in case your family loses power. Avoid driving during bad weather unless in the case of an emergency.
#2 Winter storms can cause loss of power, heat, and communications. Have an emergency kit with things like flashlights, warm clothes, extra blankets, water and food for several days, diapers, first aid supplies, etc.
#5 Watch for signs of hypothermia and frostbite: Watch for things like numbness in fingers, toes, ears, or your nose, as well as white or grayish-yellow discoloration, shivering, memory loss, tiredness, or slurring of speech.
#4 Charge your devices! In case of a power outage, make sure cell phones, laptops, and other communication devices are fully charged or have backup batteries.
#3 Have a family communications plan in case of an emergency, including emergency contacts, work, school, and doctor information, and a planned meeting place in case your family is separated.
Today, the Grinch made a special visit to bring some extra holiday cheer for our patients. How are you spreading some cheer this holiday season? Let us know in the comments!
