Younger Canadians are facing a disproportionate risk of payment fraud. New research from @PaymentsCanada found that nearly half of Gen Z Canadians aged 18 to 24 experienced a scam involving money or personal information in the past year.
More than one-quarter of Gen Z Canadians who experienced fraud lost money, double the rate for the general population. As fraudsters use increasingly sophisticated social engineering, impersonation, and AI-enabled tactics, fraud and cybersecurity education and awareness remain critical. They must be supported by continued investment in fraud prevention technology and strong coordination across the payments ecosystem.
Protecting Canadians from fraud is a shared responsibility. By working together across sectors, we can disrupt scams faster and strengthen the safety, resilience, and trust in Canada’s payment system.
