Proud to be "The Silverback." CEO of @AMCTheatres since 2016. Former CEO of Starwood Hotels, Norwegian Cruise Line, Vail Resorts and Philadelphia 76ers.
AMC movie ticket scalpers above face price: To protect all our guests, your scalping days are numbered. We are monitoring EBAY and other sites. We will do our best to cancel your tickets and close your Stubs account. It is a violation of our ticketing terms to scalp AMC tickets.
Greedy intermediaries gobbling up and then scalping AMC movie theatre tickets above face prices hurt consumers. To protect our guests, and as CEO of the largest movie theater chain in the U.S., I intend to do something about it, limiting or stopping this on your behalf !!!
We have cross functional teams actively reviewing how best we can do something to put the brakes on these wannabe ticket brokers.
I note that Cinema United, the movie theatre's national trade association in the United States, issued a letter today addressed to both David Ellison, Chairman and CEO of Paramount Skydance and to the Honorable Rob Bonta, Attorney General of California, on behalf of the various states who have joined with California.
In the letter, Cinema United called on the two parties to sit together and find a mutually acceptable resolution to Paramount’s plan to acquire Warner Brothers Discovery. Cinema United apparently has come just now to the same conclusion that I came to fully four months ago.
As I have repeatedly said and written since April, a weak movie slate is a far greater threat to movie theatre operators and to moviegoers than is a strong studio.
Of course, I also believe that it is wise to have in hand certain protections that will: assure a sizable number of films, that are well marketed, are shown in theatres first and for a reasonable period of time, along with continued access to film libraries and status quo economic splits between film distributors and film exhibitors.
But it has been my experience that Paramount has been willing to make and even guarantee such assurances. Indeed, since April, Paramount to its great credit has been putting those policies into place right now, already.
At this juncture, then, the choice is between the two parties soon reaching an amicable settlement between them, or instead waiting in limbo for at least seven to eight months or more, until the results are known from a trial that is not scheduled to be held until March of next year.
Our industry can not wait that long.
In 2026, the box office is finally booming, after six long years of the aftermath first from Covid in 2020 and then from the Hollywood labor strikes in 2023. There is a grave risk that delay now will be another unfortunate or unnecessary disruption to the movie business. At the worst, Paramount and Warner each may be partially paralyzed if they have to wait for this cloud of uncertainty to dissipate. Or at best, they only will be distracted and slowed down from seeking that desired optimal outcome of creating more movies to hit theatre screens in the near and medium term.
What’s more, the staggering cost of all the legal wrangling is mind-boggling, and will divert monies that could be going to film makers and which instead will be going to the lawyers representing these warring litigants or to Wall Street arbitragers holding WBD shares.
Business leaders across any and all industries will always say that protracted uncertainty or disruption will be unsettling. Worse, it often sparks unintended consequences that far too frequently produce truly negative developments, sometimes devastatingly bad ones.
I wholeheartedly endorse that the two parties, Mr. Ellison of Paramount and Attorney General Bonta of California, along with their respective teams, seriously engage together and immediately solve this conundrum.
Now is the time for wisdom, safeguarding affected constituencies for sure in the process.
If you know your biblical history, I am hoping for a King Solomon to emerge, perhaps both of the key players eventually rising to share together such a vaunted throne.
We try so hard to be expert in what we usually do so well, devoted as we are to pleasing hundreds of millions of guests in our theatres each year.
Today, though, as Dune 3 tickets went on sale, the crushing volumes briefly slowed or glitched our online ticketing systems.
Indeed, AMC experienced extraordinarily high demand, particularly for premium format presentations and for some of our most desired locations.
Ticketing traffic across AMC’s website and mobile app reached levels approximately three times higher than what we experienced during the Spider-Man: Brand New Day ticket launch, which itself followed strong advance sales for The Odyssey ticket launch before that.
It’s not that our systems totally failed. We have been selling enormous numbers of tickets today, but when any of our customers experience less than our best, it is just not right.
It’s a high class problem to have such staggering demand, but even so it is intolerable and inexcusable. It just can not and should not happen, because as AMC is the clear market leader, you deserve better from us.
There was much discussion internally ahead of and preparing for the Dune 3 launch. We thought we were ready, but we weren’t.
I am told that about $2 million of IT programming resource will let us fully address the issue. Of course, that money has been approved already, and we’ve asked our IT team to move at a whirlwind speed to take whatever steps are needed so that our ticketing systems are — in all situations and in all quantities —again top shelf.
If some of you experienced delays or intermittent issues while attempting to purchase tickets today, we encourage you as potential AMC guests to retry your purchase, as inventory remains available at many locations and showtimes.
We appreciate our guests’ patience and enthusiasm, and we are very encouraged that so many moviegoers are excited to secure their seats for one of the most anticipated theatrical releases of the year.
Dune 3 will open on December 18.
Only 2 weeks in theatres so far, this week Spider-man: Brand New Day surpasses $700 million in industry-wide domestic box office, $1.7 billion globally. It’s gotten here faster than any previous film ever. It has tons of running room for much more ahead. See it at AMC and Odeon.

If you are not watching Spider-man: Brand New Day or The Odyssey in a movie theatre, you might be among the only people on earth who are missing these global phenomenons.
Millions of seats are on sale at AMC and Odeon.
I wrote this Op Ed this week, which was then published in Variety.
It explains why I believe it is in the best interest of AMC that Paramount’s acquisition of Warner Bros be approved.

All hail Chris Nolan. As of weekend two in theatres, The Odyssey is now up to a media-reported $286 million domestic box office gross. And $640 million at the worldwide box office.
AMC’s IMAX screens had their all-time highest ever two weekend gross for a single movie title!
I found this decades-old throwback song by scouring the internet, secured the rights and brought it back to the arena out of nowhere. Fifteen years later, it still plays at a game’s end after every win. Going to be played many times this season!
AMC is the 5th company I have run as CEO over the past 33 years. One of the five was the NBA team in my hometown, the Philadelphia 76ers and I was a co-owner of the team for 12 years as well.
As for the Sixers, there is only one word to say:
LEBRON !!!!!!!!!!!!!
@CEOAdam@moass_inc Yes sir well said! There is no greater joy than the happiness on my kids’ faces while at AMC. So happy my kids and I are able to experience this together. 💙❤️💙🍿
@CEOAdam My son’s very FIRST movie at AMC
Hedge funds and market makers tried to take this away from us. I’m here to make sure my sons’s kids get to enjoy that same magical feeling seeing a movie for the 1st time
We come to the place for magic. And we are not leaving #Amc#Zootopia2
THE DAY AFTER. It was such a distinct pleasure, so immensely satisfying, to be able to report to you yesterday that our second quarter of 2026 with $321.4 million of Adjusted EBITDA was the single best quarterly result in AMC’s entire 106-year history.
With 71 million guests in our theatres, we also had the highest revenues in AMC history, and managed our costs well.
We have generated $228 million more EBITDA in the first half of 2026 than we did in the first half last year.
We finished the quarter with $778 million of cash on hand.
The best way to silence the critics and make the naysayers irrelevant is to produce undeniably good results, in this case for Q2 record results, and that is precisely what AMC has been doing throughout 2026.
To those Apes who stood by us along the way, and especially to those who are with us still, I am not exaggerating in saluting the role you all played in saving moviegoing and saving movie theatres and saving AMC.
Because of your support, your children and grandchildren should be able to continue to enjoy… in theatres… seeing dazzling images on our huge silver screens, just as people have done to their great delight for more than a century.
On Monday (July 20), before the market opens, AMC will announce our financial results for the 2nd quarter of 2026.
Many of you will be keenly interested to learn more as to our performance so far in 2026.
Last night, I attended the premiere of Chris Nolan’s new masterpiece The Odyssey, which took place at our AMC Lincoln Square Theatre in New York City.
Oh my, my, my what a wild movie. Our theatres are going to be packed as moviegoers flock to see this film.
A long story, but in the summer of 2007, I guest conducted the world renowned NY Philharmonic at a public performance before an audience of more than 1500 people. I conducted Dvorak’s Slavonic Dance #8 in G Minor.
This AI variation is more fitting for the summer of 2026.
