Long dry spells in the spring and recent hot temperatures mean that harvest is off to the fastest start since at least '06 (earliest available report), with multiple reports of winter barley being cut in June.🌾

First go with the comb harrow on some weedy headlands. Spring wheat was at 3 leaves but I can see the benefit of waiting till it’s stronger; just got to get the weeds at a vulnerable stage.
It’s certainly is scary looking back but a good proportion of weeds are being pulled out or have their roots pulled very close to the surface, which won’t survive the weather this week.
If I can create a tolerable crop:weed ratio, I’ll be very happy. If I can save a pass or two with the sprayer I’ll be happy. If I can provide some pollinating flowers I’ll be happy. #Farming #DontLookBack
Not for the faint of heart yesterday (in the wind) but a stoic crowd were rewarded with some pearls of wisdom from the growing & grazing cover crops dream team. Thanks all, especially @JoMatt_Germinal@ExlanaSheep and host Bob! @AHDB_Cereals

Michael Blanche @totallyewesome the penultimate Time Management and Personal Resilience workshop for @AHDB_Cereals last week. Delivering on time, lean management and the 80:20 rule. Thought provoking and challenging.
I attended the Farmers Weekly question time at @PlumptonCollege last night. Not only was it a great debate, it’s a fantastic venue. The question of the evening, “Are farmers happy?” That’s a room divider, but for the full write up see @FarmersWeekly next week
