Scheffler’s year thus far reminds me a little of Korda’s in 2025. Nelly played at a very high level and statistically was only negligibly off from 2024 when she won 7 times, and yet did not have a win. Scheffler has just one win this year, and some might argue that the POY year race is wide open, but he’s actually miles ahead. We are all biased by win totals, sometimes at the expense of consistency. For the past two years Scottie has been consistently brillant, this year he has been brilliantly consistent. If Rory or Fitz wins The Open the story changes but right now Scheffler, despite not being dominant in wins, dominates the POY.

I know it was only one hole, but what a high level playoff that was. Both players ripped their tee shots, only a few feet apart off the tee. Both players were spot on with their approaches only a few feet apart. Both inside 10 feet. Hovland’s putt lips in on the right. Scottie’s lips out on the left.

Hovland now 5 of 6 with a 54 hole lead. Norway punching above its population weight once again in sporting events, winning 25% of the signature events this year.

The number one and two in Strokes Gained Approach from 2025 are in a playoff at @TravelersChamp and both showing why with their approaches on the first playoff hole. Hovland to putt first from around 8 feet and Scheffler stuffed it to about 5.
